#Nike's ad featuring #Colin Kaepernick, launched in 2018 as part of its "Just Do It" campaign's 30th anniversary, was a significant moment in sports marketing and socio-political discourse. Kaepernick, the former NFL quarterback who sparked controversy by kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice and police brutality, was featured with the tagline, "Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything." The campaign received mixed reactions; it was praised for its bold stance on social justice issues, with supporters lauding Nike for aligning with the fight against racial inequality. However, it also faced backlash, including calls for boycotts from some consumers who viewed Kaepernick's protests as disrespectful to the flag and military. The impact of the campaign was profound both socially and financially. Nike's decision to feature Kaepernick was seen as a strategic move to resonate with a younger, more diverse demographic, aligning the brand with values of social justice and inclusion. Despite the initial controversy and threats of #boycotts, Nike experienced a surge in sales and an increase in its stock price following the ad's release. This demonstrated the growing importance of brand values in consumer purchasing decisions and marked a pivotal moment in the intersection of sports, politics, and business. The campaign underscored the role of brands in societal conversations and the potential risks and rewards of taking a stand on divisive issues. #adsarcasm #advertisingblunders Nike

Is it a decision, or is it a mistake? This is the question that pops up in my head every time I see this ad on the subway. Because to understand what this ad even features, you have to be quite an NBA super-fan. Nocta is Nike’s subbrand of edgy streetwear. It is provocative and plays with pop culture meanings: street culture is high culture. It is Balenciaga-ish, if it makes sense. And now you are: “ok. What’s Easy Money about tho?” Thank you for asking. Easy Money is Kevin Durant’s nickname. It is not the most obvious either; typically the media calls him “KD.” His nickname is Easy Money because… well, did you see him play? Easy! Easy Money. And it is a smart ad: money reflects a commentary on both the pop culture definition of success and Kevin Durant. But do your people need to know so much pre-existing knowledge, to understand what it's an ad for? Or is it just for the NBA fans? But if that's the case, why KD? In Brooklyn? Where he joined the team, only to leave it for the Suns. Maybe they are implying it was easy money for him as well? Anyhow, maybe decision, maybe mistake - who knows. Well, maybe someone does. As for me, this ad launches me into the Macbook wheel of death. Anyhow. #nocta #nike #easymoney

In the arena of basketball and sneaker culture, Michael Jordan and the Air Jordan series broke boundaries and set new trends. 🏀👟 The story began with the Air Jordan 1s, known for their striking team colors. Contrary to popular myth, MJ never joked about looking like a clown; instead, the bold design was a point of contention with NBA dress codes, leading to a legendary marketing story. 🚫🤡 The Air Jordan III, not just any sneaker, introduced luxury to the basketball court with its use of premium materials like elephant print leather, making a statement that sneakers could be both stylish and functional. 🐘✨ The saga of the Air Jordan XI is a true testament to MJ's influence; he wore them in the 1995 NBA Playoffs before their official release, defying expectations and setting a trend for pre-release hype. 🌟👀 Correcting these legends shows the power of innovation and personality in shaping sneaker history. Michael Jordan wasn't just a trendsetter; he was a trailblazer who pushed boundaries, blending performance with unprecedented style. Each chapter in the Air Jordan story not only highlights a leap in sneaker design but also celebrates the spirit of daring to be different. 🌟🔥 Embracing the essence of these moments teaches us that pioneering can redefine the game, both on and off the court. In this post I will answer the two questions you have for me. Answer No. 1: “Yes, I’m loving Reed Smith and I’m happy I made the move.” Answer No. 2: “Yes, I miss Covington." Both of those two things can be true. It’s like wave–particle duality. Sort of. Or maybe it’s not like that. What is that thing called when two things seem irreconcilable, but are not? Anyway, it’s like that. This post is pretty thin when it comes to professional puffery and deracinated lawyers rarely make for compelling social media content. If you’re still reading this, you’re not “networking” on a Monday morning, you’re goofing off. Here’s how I know. The video at the link is the greatest TV commercial of all time. It’s basketball themed, and it’s March, so g’head and watch it. And don’t fight me in the comments about whether this 11-year old Nike ad is the “greatest” or simply one of the greatest. It’s a masterpiece of the advertiser’s art, and we can just leave it at that. #generativeAI, #videogamelaw, #esports, #esportslaw, #waveparticleduality, #reedsmith, #covington, #threebodyproblem, #videogames

Love this #fighttheheist campaign video showing the powerful women who make Nike’s apparel and shoes who are fighting for a living wage. As much as Nike promotes strong women in sports who wear their brand, they must support these powerful women who work for them! Apparel workers across South East Asia are demanding that apparel companies like Nike: *Sit down with garment workers and their unions for a systematic investigation of COVID wage claims, including specific impacts on women workers. *Stop billionaire payouts from dividends and stock buybacks until all garment workers are repaid their lost wages. *Transform their global supply chains including providing living wages for all workers.
