Today, we had the pleasure of hosting the Uganda Insurers Association (UIA) at our offices. Their visit was to express gratitude for our support towards their impactful initiative to purchase two ambulances for the Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS). At Prudential Uganda, we are deeply committed to creating meaningful partnerships that drive positive change in our communities. Our CEO, Tetteh Ayitevie, highlighted the importance of this collaboration and expressed our desire to strengthen this partnership to ensure long-term impact. We are also humbled by the remarks from URCS's Secretary General, Robert Kwesiga, recognizing the role of partnerships in supporting humanitarian efforts. It reaffirms our belief in the power of collaboration to address critical needs. We thank UIA’s CEO, Jonan Kisakye ACII ACSI , for their dedication to advancing this initiative and for their recognition of Prudential Uganda’s commitment to improving lives. Together, we look forward to building a sustainable fleet of ambulances that will enhance emergency response and save lives across Uganda. #LetsFaceLifeTogether #TuliNaawe

📣 New resource just uploaded 🌍 'Group Cash Transfers in South Sudan: Case Study and Learning Brief' South Sudan Red Cross Society (SSRC) with the support of Danish Red Cross conducted a pilot last year using the Group Cash Transfer (GCT) approach. The SSRC engaged in the GCTs pilot to complement their ongoing strategic priority towards using cash and voucher assistance in their interventions. The GCTs allowed communities to lead the priority setting, design, implementation, and monitoring of their group projects. The overall project aim was to stimulate and create avenues for communities to access food locally and to enable resilient livelihoods for the group members. #cva #cash #humanitarian #SouthSudan #livelihoods #communities Danish Red Cross in South Sudan https://lnkd.in/dPWeKxMn

Exciting to see the progress on group cash transfers & the work of Maja Tonning and others to evidence and detail this area of cash programming come to fruition. Progress towards grants which can be used by groups in communities to enable and scale up self-help groups / mutual aid models. The grant mechanism by itself doesn't ensure community-led response to crisis, but it's a big step in the direction of fuelling that to happen. We've been pushing donors to engage with such models with successes at some national levels - how about the UN & EU getting on board.

It's time to address the glaring absence of key UN agencies from crisis zones. Darfur is currently one of the epicenters of the Sudan crisis, where preventable hunger, child malnutrition, and death have reached unprecedented levels. Despite being the largest recipients of aid from donor governments, UN agencies are conspicuously absent. Meanwhile, INGOs like MSF, Plan International, and dedicated Sudanese volunteer groups are on the ground, working tirelessly yet struggling with funding. When will donor governments recognize the invaluable contributions of local partners and establish meaningful partnerships driven by those who are actually delivering aid on the front lines? Governments must move beyond the token gesture of funneling money through the UN to appease advocacy voices. It's imperative that funding for crises is allocated effectively and timely to those who can make a real difference. ACFID AU Naomi Brooks Marc Purcell #KeepEyesOnSudan #TalkAboutSudan

Malawi faces a climate-induced #hunger crisis. With US$147 million allocated to debt servicing this year—over 5% of total govt spending—redirecting these funds to build smallholder farmer resilience is crucial. Most importantly, it is key for donor governments to generously contribute to The World Bank's #IDA fund to help countries facing multiple crises turn around their targets to end hunger and #malnutrition. Read more from Malawi's Finance Minister, Hon. Chithyola on why investing in #IDA21 replenishment is crucial to saving lives, building resilience, and securing our future: https://bit.ly/4epHNGu #HungryforAction #GoodFood4All

📢 Important calls for more The World Bank #IDA21 funding towards nutrition and food security from Malawi's Finance Minister, Hon. Simplex Chithyola Banda. He calls for donor governments to step up both "financially and strategically". "IDA is one of the most proven and effective aid providers the world possesses today and will be vital in delivering the vision of a hunger- and poverty-free world. With greater funding, the IDA can support the long-term investments needed to strengthen national food systems, while also breaking the cycle of crises that currently hold back the most vulnerable nations." At World Vision, we have also been calling for stronger focus on nutrition and food security within the IDA21 policy framework focus areas, relevant lenses as well as in the World Bank Corporate Scorecard. We urge IDA Deputies to commit to increase IDA funding levels and increase the pace of disbursements towards food and nutrition security to address the ongoing crisis. ⚠ Our full list of recommendations can be found here: https://lnkd.in/dGR9PfWV #ENOUGH
