This week, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology published a series (two articles, linked in comments) that demonstrate the extreme effects of pollution on health outcomes, and the intersections with climate change. As #environmentaljustice advocates, we have long been aware of the intersections of uneven exposure to pollution in frontline BIPOC communities and the compounding impacts this pollution has on the livelihoods of these communities. These scientists call for an urgent need of better monitoring. While this is an important first step, communities and EJ advocates know that pollution is deadly and comes in many forms. We need science and monitoring *alongside* policy and advocacy. I’m proud to support my colleagues at DUWAMISH RIVER COMMUNITY COALITION, the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences at University of Washington, researchers at Western Washington University & the USDA Forest Service, and staff at the City of Seattle’s Duwamish Valley Program and Climate Justice team as we support community-led and community-based action research to monitor pollution, such as the DAISY project or the #DuwamishValley “moss study,” as one piece of a broader strategy to promote environmental justice and reduce pollution burden in the Duwamish Valley. Check out this coverage of these scientific reports and read the studies in the comments! Maja Jeranko, PhD, BJ Cummings, Paulina López, Jamie Hearn, Joseph Santana, Troy D. Our new study published in Environ Health Perpsectives on environmental exposures and Long-COVID in a Prospective Population-Based Study in Catalonia (COVICAT Study). We find an association of exposure to air-pollutants (PM2.5) and persisting long-COVID that makes biological sense given the effects of air pollution on COVID-19 severity and decrease of immune response to vaccines that we and other have shown https://lnkd.in/eWKMMDRB

Biodiversity loss impacts us all 🦇🌍. A recent study shows how declining bat populations, caused by white-nose syndrome, lead to increased pesticide use and health risks, including higher infant mortality rates. Protecting bats is crucial for healthier ecosystems and communities. Read more about this groundbreaking research here: https://bit.ly/4gjIsK5. 🌱 #Biodiversity #PublicHealth #Sustainability

Source: (Current environmental health reports) Review examines air pollution, temperature, and their links to seizures/epilepsy. Analyzed 34 studies, mainly from Asia, focusing on pollutants like PM2.5, NO2, SO2, CO, O3, and temperature. Findings on associations are inconsistent, with mixed results on their impact on seizure incidence and epilepsy aggravation.

Radioactive pollution poses health risks such as cancer and genetic mutations due to radiation exposure, while also harming ecosystems by contaminating soil, water, and air. Contaminated food and water sources can further exacerbate health concerns, emphasizing the need for stringent regulation and remediation efforts to mitigate its long-lasting effects on both human health and the environment. visit our website for more details https:// https://lnkd.in/eWe-Mu-G the-importance-of-checking-land-pollution- before-buying/ #trend #reelsviralfb #foryou #trendingreels #naturaltherapy #holistichealth #wellnessjourney #naturalremedies #trendingreelsvideo #plantsofinstagram #sustainableliving #greenliving #trending #healthyliving #PlantPower #plant #plantlover #greenmedicine #plantbased #healingplants #naturalhealing #earthmedicine #naturecure #plantmedicine #herbalwisdom #greenlivingtips #plantmom #plantbasedhealth #herbalremedies
