Tesco has announced they will be piloting putting GS1 Digital Link QR codes on its products that give shoppers access to detailed product information and dynamic content, in what is being dubbed the “second barcode revolution”. These GS1 Digital Link 2d barcodes, a type of QR code, work the same as traditional barcodes at checkout, but when a consumer scans the code with their smartphone they can access detailed product information such as ingredients and allergens, recipe ideas and offers as well as sustainability and recycling information. Retailers and distributors can also scan the QR code to receive batch or item specific information regarding storage information, product recalls, stock levels and even automatically discount products nearing or past their expiry date. Prove Anything's SmartLinks platform is designed to further enhance these Digital Link QR codes, making the information dynamic and updatable while providing a suite of engagement and customer service tools which capitalises upon and extends its functionality.
