It's almost a year that I have been involved in the packaging industry. It was a quiet day today, so here are some insights regarding sustainable packaging. With deep respect to everyone with whom I have had the opportunity to discuss, I deploy a descriptive thought about the current status of "greenwashing" in the packaging ecosystem. With stringent legislation against greenwashing, packaging companies are under immense pressure to align with sustainable practices. However, despite their best efforts, many are falling short. Why? Because they overlook a crucial aspect: providing transparent footprint evidence to their customers. The legislation aims to demolish biased practices, ensuring companies don't mislead consumers with false claims of eco-friendliness. Yet, the compliance challenge isn't just about avoiding misleading statements. It's about embracing a culture of transparency, open innovation, and accountability. To realise that true sustainability is rooted in offering verifiable, clear evidence of their environmental footprint. When companies don't offer transparent footprint evidence, they inadvertently hinder their customers' ability to make informed choices. Without access to comprehensive insights, customers are left in the dark, unable to identify which packaging options genuinely align with their sustainability goals. This lack of transparency creates a significant barrier for customers striving to make environmentally conscious decisions, and decreases the value acquisition. This inability to compare, and evaluate the environmental impact of different packaging options means customers can't effectively reach their own environmental targets. This gap in information not only affects individual businesses, but also hampers broader efforts to achieve collective sustainability goals. In conclusion, the path to genuine sustainability lies in transparency. Packaging companies must step up, and provide the necessary data that allows customers to make informed, conscious decisions. Sustainability, is like going to school, at work, and enjoy doing it. Otherwise there is no underlying value. Only then can we collectively move towards a more sustainable world. #SustainablePackaging #TransparencyMatters #EcoFriendly #Greenwashing #EnvironmentalFootprint #GreenFuture #SustainableBusiness #PackagingSolutions #SBTi #EnvironmentalTargets #GreenLegislation #ResponsiblePackaging

In the past years, I have held +100 Packaging School sessions with customers and stakeholders, talking about food packaging and how we in Plus Pack design food packaging for a circular future. It has become a personal mission, and today, I could never dream of having just one bin myself at home for residual waste. Fortunately, I am not alone. We are all getting better at sorting for recycling as we get used to it and understand the why behind the sorting schemes. One of the latest regulations is the EPR – Extended Producer Responsibility, where the producer is responsible for the packaging waste. In short, the polluter pays! If you choose a recyclable packaging, you pay a low fee, and if you choose a non-recyclable packaging, you pay a higher fee. Quite simple – just like we know regulations from other environmental areas. However, EPR can be quite complex to navigate. Therefore, we have created a webinar aimed at food producers, retailers, and distribution partners using or selling food packaging. Here, we talk about the implications of EPR with a focus on how you can rethink your food packaging and lower your EPR fees. I am happy to have my colleague Ksenija Garbacenka, Group Sustainability & Quality Manager, by my side in the webinar, and together we will take you through 30-minute of best practice and valuable insights followed by questions. Don’t miss it, sign up here: https://lnkd.in/dtpthZan I hope to see you ♻ #PlusPackWebinar #EPR #EPRfees #PackagingOptimization #CircularEconomy #thedrivetomakeadifference #forgood

📜 As the world becomes increasingly aware of environmental issues, regulatory pressures on packaging are intensifying. Governments around the globe are implementing stringent regulations to curb plastic waste and promote sustainable packaging solutions. It involves staying updated with the latest laws, investing in new technologies, and sometimes overhauling entire supply chains. However, these challenges also present opportunities for innovation and leadership in sustainability. Regulatory pressures are driving companies to adopt practices that are not only compliant but also environmentally and economically beneficial. By embracing these changes, businesses can not only meet regulatory requirements but also align with the growing consumer demand for eco-friendly products.
