Bonang Mohale: Government needs to take tourism more seriously. For every one tourist, stats say that you create eight jobs. As a president, your job is not to condemn more people into social grants, but to create more jobs – and tourism can enable this. #BudgetSpeech2024 #SABudget2024

I've seen the many wonders #Turkiye offers to tourists. However, I have to mention a critical issue: the shortage of skilled personnel in our tourism sector. Tourism industry is vital for countrys' #economy. But to provide top-quality service, we need well-trained and high skilled staff. Unfortunately, finding such skilled #employees has become increasingly challenging. Economic up&downs, political issues, natural disasters, and health crises like the COVID-19 pandemic have all hurt tourism. And High turnover rates due to seasonal work and job #instability further complicate the issue. As a result, many talented individuals are hesitating to invest their careers in a sector they see as unstable. I would love to hear your thoughts. How can we solve the skilled personnel problem in Turkiye’s tourism sector? Your ideas could help shape the future of our industry. LOTİ

Tourism in Namibia: Business Over Nationality... Is the State Asleep? In Namibia, the state should economically support its small businesses, especially since around 90% of the population lives below the average income level and the middle class is still being developed. Small businesses should be supported through fair market access and reasonable commission rates to remain competitive. It is encouraging when accommodations offer comparable commission rates to both small and large providers, which facilitates fair competition and allows customers to support the local market. This is currently only partially available with private accommodations! However, it becomes problematic when semi-governmental companies like NWR grant only 10% commission to smaller, local businesses, simply because they are less active, while large companies receive 25-30%, even though these often operate abroad and, which bothers me greatly, act as booking platforms! This disadvantages smaller providers who pay their taxes locally and reinvest their earnings into the economy. It also harms Namibia as a country, as these "cuts" result in significant losses for the national economy... but no one seems to notice. Despite my personal satisfaction with tourism and the opportunity to live well, I question how new Namibian businesses can be protected from the big players and whether my young compatriots can still start their own businesses with economic protection today. I question whether this is a functioning, sustainable capitalism for Namibians, or if those in charge are failing to protect our people and our economy.

There are major mechanisms through which tourism industry can positively affect economic growth in a country like Nigeria. First, like export, tourism generates foreign currency required to finance imports of investment and intermediate goods used to add value in the production process. it is a significant source of foreign exchange earnings for many countries. Visitors spend money on accommodation, transportation, food, souvenirs, and various activities, contributing to the local economy. Governments often collect taxes from these transactions, providing additional revenue to invest in public infrastructure, education, and healthcare. Second, the spending of international tourism can inspire the development of other industries such as transport, hotels and restaurants, manufacturing, handicraft, agriculture and the trade. To attract and accommodate tourists, destinations often invest in improving their infrastructure. This includes the development of transportation networks, airports, roads, and public facilities. The upgraded infrastructure not only enhances the tourism experience but also benefits the local population by providing better connectivity and services. Third, it can directly or indirectly generate employment that activate consumption and investment among local economic agents. it generates employment opportunities across various sectors such as hospitality, transportation, entertainment, and local services. As the number of tourists increases, businesses expand to meet the demand, leading to a rise in job opportunities. This, in turn, contributes to reduced unemployment rates and improved income levels in the community Fourth, tourism fosters cultural exchange between visitors and locals. This exchange not only enriches the experiences of both tourists and residents but also contributes to the preservation of cultural heritage. Communities often recognize the economic value of their cultural assets and work towards their conservation, leading to sustainable tourism practices that benefit both the industry and the local population. Fifth, the growth of tourism often stimulates the development of local businesses, including small and medium enterprises. As local businesses flourish, they become potential partners for foreign investors seeking collaborations or local suppliers for their operations. This interconnected network can create mutually beneficial opportunities. It's important to note that while tourism can bring positive economic impacts, responsible and sustainable practices are crucial to minimize negative consequences such as environmental degradation, cultural commodification, and social disruption. Governments, local communities, and the tourism industry must collaborate to ensure that tourism development aligns with long-term economic, social, and environmental sustainability. #tourism #danzatravels #economicgrowth #sustainabledevelopment #linkedin
