The interface between two different materials can show unexpected quantum phenomena. We are pleased to share that a team led by Penn State University researchers has demonstrated superconductivity at the interface between the fusion of two magnetic materials, a ferromagnet (Cr-doped (Bi, Sb)2Te) and an antiferromagnet (FeTe). The system has all the components required for unique type of superconductivity called chiral topological superconductivity, which could provide the basis for more robust quantum computing. A crucial facet of fusion lies in diagnostics, enabling precise measurements of the core of fusion devices, often surpassing temperatures seen at the center of the sun. However, interpreting and analysing such complex measurements present significant challenges.    Dr Valerian Hall-Chen, a Principal Investigator at A*STAR's Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC), has secured a Young Investigator Research Grant (YIRG) to enhance the comprehension of turbulence measurements in stellarators, a specialised class of fusion devices characterised by intricate magnetic geometries. Scientists Identify Sources of Radiation Interfering with Quantum Computing Scientists at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) have made a crucial breakthrough in preparing test facilities for superconducting qubits, a key step towards practical quantum computing. Led by physicists Brent VanDevender and Ben Loer, the research team has identified sources of interfering ionizing radiation that can cause errors in quantum devices. They found that cosmic radiation and naturally occurring isotopes are equally responsible for decoherence, a process where qubits lose their quantum state. The team also discovered that electrical connectors and materials used in experimental equipment can be significant sources of radiation. To address this, they developed measures to shield sensitive equipment from radiation exposure, including the use of lead-shielded cryostats and ultra-clean underground facilities. The research, published in PRX Quantum and the Journal of Instrumentation, sets the stage for quantitative studies on errors caused by radiation effects in shielded facilities, paving the way for the next generation of qubit development. #quantum #quantumcomputing #technology https://lnkd.in/e6R7hY-b

𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 observed for over 100ns Paper just published by Yamauchi et al. (2024) from Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan, sets a milestone in the challenges of Quantum Sensing. While the coherence was observed only for nanoseconds, the findings will pave the way for designing materials for the generation of multiple qubits at room temperatures.
