Today is the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Navy, and to mark the occasion, the first "Hidden into the Deep Sea" film about their war submarines was launched Many scenes in the film have been made public for the first time, starting with the actual combat, of the formation of the #Shandong aircraft carrier, and the high-definition scene of the missile launch from the #Julang submarine. Julang-2 (JL-2) is #China's second-generation submarine-launched intercontinental ballistic missile designed as a three-stage solid-fuel rocket. The maximum range of the basic version is 7,400 kilometers, while the improved version can increase to 8,000-9,000 kilometers and can carry 1 to 3 #nuclear warheads. On December 22, 2013, the first underwater launch test of the strategic nuclear submarines "#Julang2" and 094 " was a complete success. This was also the first time #China's naval strategic #nuclearweapons equipped it with such combat capabilities. Although the protagonist of this short film is a strategic #nuclearsubmarine, the guest appearance of the aircraft carrier formation is equally impressive. The #Pakistan Navy's (PN) Hangor (II)-class submarine program is poised to support the country's nuclear second-strike capabilities. However, when it comes to building its sea-based strategic capabilities, it seems that Pakistan won't stop at the Hangor. The PN wants a *dedicated* strategic platform, and for the Hangor, the strategic role would be one role among many (alongside anti-ship and submarine warfare). Does this mean that a nuclear-powered submarine (SSN/SSBN) is on the horizon? Not necessarily. PN officials have coined the term, "hybrid solution" to refer to their ability to pair nuclear weapons to conventionally-powered boats. In the future, the PN may try building upon this "hybrid" idea by seeking a conventionally-powered submarine with dedicated systems designed for supporting a credible nuclear payload. The classic Cold War movie "The Hunt for Red October" was the inspiration for the latest propulsion system installed on a US Navy Virginia Class nuclear submarine. The magnetohydrodynamic drive, commonly referred to as a caterpillar drive, will enable US submarines to patrol the ocean depths in complete silence taking stealth to a new level. The caterpillar drive has no moving parts that can make noise underwater. It uses high-powered magnets to generate electricity used to propel the vessel through the water silently. The Tourville (S637) is the third Suffren-class SSN. The first sea trials, also known as “Alpha Trials”, was conducted off the Naval Group submarine shipyard of Cherbourg in Normandy, with the submarine setting sails 12 July 2024. The Tourville first sea trials follow the commissioning of the nuclear boiler room in April 2024 and the dock tests carried out since the submarine was transferred to its launching gear on 20 July 2023. The operations carried out in the integration bay, in the dry then water-filled docks, enabled the equipment and systems to be tested beforehand at quay. The Barracuda series is well underway and the pace is quickening: the remaining three submarines in the program (de Grasse, Rubis and Casabianca) are all currently under construction, at different stages of completion. Their deliveries will be staggered at a rate of one every two years until 2030. With a lifespan of more than 30 years, the Barracuda program commits submarine forces until at least 2060, making it one of the major weapons systems of this century. It should be noted that, once the Tourville is admitted to active service, the French Navy will operate more Suffren-type submarines than Rubis-type submarines.
