Many students today are prioritising factors beyond academics when choosing a university or business school – social networking opportunities, flexible learning options and financial support are becoming more important. We spoke to Andrew Patterson, Deputy Dean of The University of Auckland Business School, about the shift he has witnessed in student priorities. “What I've noticed over the years is that students, they really are looking for educators who are obviously knowledgeable, but perhaps most importantly, approachable" says Patterson. Is your institution working to ensure you're offering students a holistic learning experience? Time to Rethink Our Education System!! In today’s fast-paced world, the traditional education model focusing primarily on theory is no longer enough. To truly prepare students for the real world, we must balance theory with hands-on experience. Imagine an education system where at least 50% of the learning is practical—students would not only understand concepts but also apply them in real-world situations. Practical learning makes understanding easier and more effective. It fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and the development of essential skills. By embracing this change, we can bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical expertise, helping individuals become more adaptable, innovative, and job-ready. #EducationReform #PracticalLearning #SkillsDevelopment #FutureOfEducation

Imagine a country where every child, regardless of their background or location, has equal access to quality education. In Australia, we pride ourselves on fairness and opportunity. But does the reality match this ideal? Students in remote communities are, on average, three years behind their metropolitan peers in literacy and numeracy. This disparity raises a pressing question: Are we truly giving every child a fair chance to follow their dreams? Throughout my journey as a student in UNSW, I often see the long-term effects of educational inequality. Candidates from underfunded schools sometimes lack opportunities that others have had, not due to lack of talent or ambition, but simply because they didn't have the same access to resources and support. I believe it's time for change. By prioritising funding for public schools and ensuring equitable access to quality education, we can empower all Australian youth to reach their potential. My experiences in the COMM2501 course has been nothing but exceptional. The continuous exchange of feedback from peers and tutors have greatly developed all aspects of my data story such as creating appealing graphs, producing engaging hooks and understanding the broader concepts. Overall, I've done the best I can and I'm confident to say I'd score a 9 out of 10 in this course! Owen Tong | Alireza Ghaffarian #unswDataVisComm

This scholarly review lists almost 30 factors for prospective students to consider when determining whether an institution is sufficiently supportive, however there's no mention of the government-commissioned Student Experience Survey which is most reliable since it includes an indicator dedicated to Student Support, with the results publicly available on the compared.edu.au website. (A brief glance reveals Kaplan Business School is among Australia's Top 3 business schools for this all-important metric, outranking every public university.) #studentsupport #highered https://lnkd.in/gpThH3Hy

Putting Theory into Practice - Teaching Business Through Challenge Learning As students graduate with debts from £45,000 for UK bachelor’s degrees and $150,000 for US MBAs, universities globally are under pressure to prove their value to students. Increasingly, employers are complaining that universities are not preparing students for the workplace, with some no longer requiring a degree but instead recruiting for specific skills. Ronan Gruenbaum, Global Director of Undergraduate Learning and Development for Hult International Business School School presents to the group on how higher education institutions must rethink their entire way of teaching to bridge the gap between academia and industry requirements and equip students with practical skills for the modern workplace. #EducationSF #StudentLearning #Universities

🤐 With the General Election only weeks away, there has been much talk about the future of Higher Education. With certain parties pledging to end "rip-off" degree programmes, I wonder if there is more we can do within teaching and learning strategies to enhance graduate attributes. 🕵♂️ Different approaches have benefits and cons, including traditional lecture style format and flipped learning approaches. What else can be done inside T&L hours to accentuate the development of graduate attributes to prepare future generations for the world of work? 📈 Many degree courses try to extract key attributes such as critical thinking, communication and collaboration. I'm intrigued to hear the variety of approaches to Higher Education teaching and learning that purposefully attempt to extract the development of graduate attributes, embedded within the curricula. #HigherEducation #TeachingStrategies #GraduateAttributes #FutureOfWork #CriticalThinking #CommunicationSkills #Collaboration #FlippedLearning #TraditionalTeaching #EducationInnovation #StudentSuccess
