Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending the splendid launch of Bizkaia Quantum Advanced Industries (#BIQAIN), the industrial strategy of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia (Diputacion Foral de Bizkaia) in quantum technology to consolidate the leading position of the territory in this field. To this end, BIQAIN: · It will offer accompanying services to companies with the aim of connecting supply and demand, so that both SMEs and large companies in Bizkaia begin to experiment in this field, learn about the possibilities offered by this technology and can create and test innovative market solutions. · It will provide training and qualification services for companies and society. · It will stimulate collaboration between technology and research centers, universities and entrepreneurship. We have been waiting for this day for a few months because aQuantum has the honor, and the great responsibility, to be working with Telefónica in the preparation of the backroom of quantum services management which, as announced yesterday at #QuantumNow2024, will soon begin to offer BIQAIN to the players listed above so that they can remotely access an impressive variety of quantum platforms from different technologies and manufacturers. As part of the Telefónica Project Office, aQuantum will provide the technical office tasks for the centralized governance of BIQAIN quantum resources, using the advantages offered by #QuantumPath®'s Q|GovCenter functionalities for the management of private quantum hub resources: organizations, users, quantum solution demanders, quantum hardware providers (initially in this hub Amazon Web Services (AWS), D-Wave, IQM Quantum Computers, Microsoft, Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, and others), etc. As members of the Biscayan quantum ecosystem it is a pleasure to welcome #BIQAIN. A special congratulations to Lantik S.A., Nerea Martiartu and, especially, to Valentin Garcia and his team, for the excellent work done to transform the #BIQAIN vision into a reality that will contribute, very actively, to the development and adoption of practical quantum computing by the industry. #BIQAIN is part of the BasQ initiative promoted by the Department of Science, Universities and Innovation of the Basque Government. Exciting progress in Quantum Connectivity: an international research team led by QuTech has demonstrated a quantum network connection between two Dutch cities! 🌍 🚀 Their result marks a key advance from early research networks in the lab towards a future quantum internet. The team developed fully independently operating nodes and integrated these with deployed optical internet fibre, enabling a 25 km quantum link. The results have been published in Science Advances. 🇳🇱 Building on our outstanding research, QuTech’s economic impact in the Netherlands, and particularly in Delft, is becoming increasingly visible. It is not only evident from our research collaborations with globally operating technology giants but also from our rapidly expanding ecosystem of quantum companies. This ecosystem encompasses start-ups and scale-ups in quantum computing and quantum networking, as well as international companies that join the House of Quantum to establish a Dutch or European presence in proximity to the quantum talent that is concentrated in Delft. 🤝 The companies within the Delft ecosystem are transforming laboratory discoveries into tangible real-world applications, extending the quantum domain to involve an increasing number of people and disciplines. As the ecosystem has expanded, these enterprises and our collaborative research have become an integral part of our joint efforts to advance quantum technology. 🇪🇺 Reflecting on Quantum Europe 2024 🇪🇺 I had the privilege of attending Quantum Europe in Brussels two weeks ago, and it was an inspiring experience to engage with industry leaders and experts about the future of #quantum #computing. I shared some key insights during the panel discussion: 1—Only the most complex problems are suited for quantum solutions, and industries like #chemistry and #materials science stand to gain the most. Collaboration with these sectors is essential to exploring potential use cases and preparing them for transformation. 2—Quantum computing will coexist with AI and high-performance computing (HPC). This integrated hybrid system will maximize our collective potential and enhance our ability to tackle complex challenges. 3—Cross-sector collaborations are crucial for driving innovation and accelerating advancements in quantum technologies. By working together, we can unlock new opportunities and solutions. 4—The #European #quantum #computing ecosystem is very strong and could play a leading role in helping Europe recover tech sovereignty. This involves thoughtful investment and technical strategies to navigate the evolving landscape. Thank you to Forum Europe for organizing such an insightful conference. Italy and #Canada have recently endorsed the ‘Italy-Canada Roadmap for Enhanced Cooperation’ to reaffirm their friendship and shared values by framing and enabling #collaborative efforts and initiatives in areas of shared interests. With a view to strenghting collaboration on #quantumtechnologies, Italy and Canada commit to explore collaboration on a network for Italian and Canadian #researchers to partner in different fields of quantum science and technology, and on #commercially oriented initiatives with organizations such as Quantum Industry Canada. The two countries will also look at ways to share technologies for high-performance scientific computing. 🌐 Colosseum, the world’s largest radio frequency emulator and open testbed, has announced the integration of support for the SLICES-RI Beyond 5G blueprint. This is a major step towards facilitating advanced research in future network infrastructures. This breakthrough was recently demonstrated at the National Science Foundation (NSF) MERIF workshop, showcasing the blueprint’s capabilities. With this integration, users can now leverage Colosseum’s emulation capabilities to implement and evaluate the SLICES-RI architecture in a realistic environment.
