Today's my birthday. Yesterday my new friends and colleagues at Whop celebrated with a cake (while also celebrating Ranika Kejriwal - pictured). It was a surprise. I think my departure from Techstars was a similar surprise to most. And I believe this birthday (now here, but then upcoming) was a catalyst to that change. The old saying, "the days are long, but the years are short" plays into that. I've always been driven by impact in the work I do (passion and mission intersecting) and after a decade of working at Techstars, it felt like I could be giving more to myself, my network and (said without hyperbole), the world. If I only have so many professional years left, I wanted to maximize them. When I announced I was leaving, a former colleague wrote on one of my posts, "not sure what you're going to do, but I know it will be helping people." Which is what I hope to do at Whop at scale. “Leaving Tekion Corp? Are you serious?” they asked. 🤔 Leaving Tekion was a gift wrapped in fear. It’s daunting to walk away from something secure, where you’ve built a reputation and a team that feels like family. 🚀 But the pull of a strong mission, the idea of creating something new, from scratch, that’s what made me take the leap. It was terrifying, yet the excitement of what lay ahead was impossible to ignore. I still remember my first day at Tekion in July of 2016. We were just a handful of engineers, crammed into a small office, driven by nothing but ambition and the desire to innovate. The pace was intense, something we proudly called “Tachyon Speed,” pushing us to move faster than light. Every moment was a learning curve, from diving into the tech to figuring out managing people on the fly, without any formal training, just the relentless need to succeed. Tekion wasn’t just a job, it was a part of me. The decision to leave was heavy, filled with a sense of loss. Yet, deep down, I knew stepping away from the security and comfort of Tekion, to new challenges could push me further up the ladder. Staying would have been safe, but growth requires risk, and I was ready to take it. The idea of solving real problems, of making a tangible impact, was exhilarating. Leaving Tekion wasn’t just about stepping away; it was about stepping into something bigger, something that could redefine the industry. 5 Months at Smthgood: Reflecting on My Developer Journey 💫 It’s hard to believe it’s been five months since I joined Smthgood as a Front-End Developer and became a Crossworker. What a journey it’s been! Every challenge, late night, and breakthrough has brought me closer to the developer I’ve always aspired to be. From Ideas to Reality: 💡 The most fulfilling part of this experience has been bringing ideas to life. There’s something powerful about taking concepts and transforming them into user interfaces that serve millions. I didn’t expect to be here so soon, but every day reminds me that growth happens outside of your comfort zone. Embracing the Grind: 💪 This role has pushed me beyond my limits in the best possible way. I’ve faced complex problems, and rather than feeling overwhelmed, I’ve been grateful for the opportunity to solve them. Overcoming technical barriers has been one of the most rewarding aspects of this role. For someone who’s worked hard to break into tech, I know there’s nothing I can’t handle. Thriving in the Fast Lane: 🛩️ I’ve always been a workaholic at heart, and at Smthgood, I’ve found an environment that fuels my passion for problem-solving. The work is challenging but never stressful because I know I’m growing with every task. The constant feedback from my team has sharpened my skills, and I’m proud of the recognition I’ve received from my team. Looking Back and Ahead: 🛣️ Reflecting on my journey, I’m grateful for the leap I took to pursue my dream of becoming a developer. I’m excited about what lies ahead and more motivated than ever to keep learning and growing. Meet the amazing team behind Ovii. A year ago, I started building Ovii with some of the most dedicated, talented, and, let’s be honest, youngest engineers I’ve ever worked with. When Deeksha Athreya and Shrikrishna Pandit, both 19 and in their second year of engineering, joined, they had no experience with production codebases. But that didn’t stop them. They jumped in with so much energy and curiosity, learning quickly and helping shape the foundation of our scalable enterprise SaaS platform. They’ve been there every step of the way, showing grit and passion that still inspires me daily. Then there’s Aditya Bansod, our first full-time hire, who joined us during his final semester in college. I’ll never forget that phone call two days after he started—Aditya called me, unsure if he could handle it. He was overwhelmed and didn’t think he could do it. We ended up having a 40-minute pep talk. Fast forward to today, and Aditya is breezing through the codebase like he’s been doing it for years. His growth has been incredible, and his contributions are at the core of what we’ve built. I look at this team and remember the early frustrations, like the hardcoded values in production (😅). But I wouldn’t trade those moments for anything. From a group of students who had never touched a production environment to engineers who built ovii’s platform from scratch – their transformation has been nothing short of inspiring. And it’s not just about the journey. In the past year, we’ve hit some incredible milestones together. We launched our beta, scaling seamlessly to 200 concurrent tests without a hitch. We landed our first two paying customers, a huge validation of all the hard work we’ve put in. And now, we’ve been accepted into the Fall '24 cohort of the Founder Institute. It’s been a wild ride, but I couldn’t be prouder of Deeksha, Shrikrishna, Aditya, and the whole team. Their dedication and growth have been the heart and soul of ovii, and I know we’re just getting started.
