The 2024 Quirepace Christmas Raffle was a huge success. Julie in our service department picked a worthy cause, and we raised £282.00 for Spinal MUSCULAR ATROPHY UK. Bravo to all those who purchased tickets and contributed prizes, and a special thanks to the directors who gave three M&S hampers and a Bluetooth speaker for the cause.

#ICYMI, the University of Pittsburgh's National Sports Brain Bank is now accepting brain donations! "For me, it's important that I be that role model to show that we have that job, if you will, as a parent, to help protect our children. And that's providing the information that can possibly help my son or my daughter in later years so that we can understand what we're dealing with and do a better job with the next generation." -Board Member, Jerome Bettis Learn how you can get involved or learn more about the NSBB. https://loom.ly/h2cL1Vc #brainbank #chucknoll #jeromebettis

#Temurin (OpenJDK-based Java Runtime) has hit several download milestones in 2024: - Back in Feb, 20M monthly users. - June, 1M daily downloads. - and now, we are very close to the 500M accum. downloads (currently 474M) dash.adoptium.net 👀 Those are A LOT of downloads for a tech project in general and open source in particular. Those downloads need infrastructure to be maintained, as well as contributors' efforts to cover our users' needs regarding quality, performance, reliability, and security. That is why we have been running these sponsorship reminders. Using an open source technology that is free of charge does not mean it is cost-free (we only wish it was). Getting a small portion of supporters from those #millions of downloads could imply offering more builds in a combination of OS and platforms (already 56), faster releases (if possible) and more project and community awareness💜🩷 . We already have some big and small names supporting our projects by giving financial and in-kind #sponsorship, and we are not grateful enough for their contributions https://lnkd.in/djJ_Naty; we want more to be part of this list. #Adoptium #EclipseFoundation
If you use technology from the Adoptium project, such as Eclipse Temurin binaries, you have the option to make a one-time or monthly donation to help us grow! Become a sponsor: https://hubs.la/Q02rQQhJ0

When I started at William & Mary in 2020, I never imagined myself becoming an entrepreneur. Now, four years later, I'm ecstatic to announce that Aaraj and I have been selected for Batch 17 of Lighthouse Labs RVA's startup accelerator program. What began as an idea between two friends at the first floor tables of Swem Library, VerbaAI LLC has blossomed into collaborations with multiple state leagues of the League of Women Voters, and a strong working relationship with Microsoft's Democracy Forward team. At VerbaAI LLC, we are dedicated to building software that fortifies the information environment. From tracking emerging narratives to detecting cutting-edge deepfake videos with Forentify, we are committed to making sure that accurate, trustworthy information prevails in an ever-evolving digital landscape. The past year and a half has been a thoroughly rewarding experience, and I’m excited to continue to take this venture, as Mike Tierney would say, “beyond the ivory tower.” My time at W&M was an instrumental part of my entrepreneurial journey. I wouldn’t be here without the immense help of the William & Mary Global Research Institute and the W&M Entrepreneurship Hub and the opportunities they gave me to present my work. My intellectual curiosity was fostered at DisinfoLab W&M, a truly unique organization at the college. Leading the lab for the past 3 years, as well as co-founding the lab’s software incubator was without a doubt the most impactful experience I had as a student. I’ll never forget the countless hours spent poring over research reports and debugging MVPs with students who shared this same entrepreneurial vision. And of course, I wouldn’t be here without the dedication of my fellow Tribe alum and co-founder Aaraj, the hardest working person I know, who has been on this journey with me every step of the way. There are so many people who have helped get me where I am today, but in particular, I would like to thank Mike Tierney, Ryan A. Musto, Ph.D., Dennis Smith, Amy Oakes, Ana Carcani Rold, Shane Szarkowski, PhD, Tim Ryan, Graham Henshaw, Tracy Gronewold, Tom Plant, Megan Hogan, Dave Leichtman, Ethan Chumley, Matthew Masterson, Tim Carroll, Dhruv Gupta, Chris Hoyle, Jasmin Alsaied, Roger Yee, Barbara A. B., Navneet V., Ellen McCarthy, and Doowan Lee for their unwavering support through this journey. Here’s to the future of VerbaAI!
We had a stellar group of applicants this round, including what might be the largest numbers ever from Virginia and the Richmond area. We are so excited to introduce you to our Batch 17 Founders! Aaraj Vij + Jeremy Swack - VerbaAI Anne Wanlund - Canopie Myles Powell - Myles Comfort Foods HanhLinh H. + MaiLinh Ho - Gateway David Hojah - Parrots Jacob Tucker + Ashley Sherry - EmpathixAI John Schindler - Liquet Medical Inc. This morning I got a message from my 10-year-old nephew, asking if I’d donate to his football team. But here’s the kicker – he’s using automation! 🙌 Yep, even a 10-year-old is out here automating his donation process to reach his goals. He’s never asked me for donations before, but now he’s got a system in place, and it’s working! 🏈 If my nephew is using automation to hit his football goals, are you using automation to hit your business goals? 🤔 If not, why not? Don’t let 10-year-olds pass you by! #AutomationWins #WorkSmarter #BusinessGoals #StayAhead #BusinessForceOne
