Redefining expertise in qualitative marketing research "We often think about expertise as the accumulation of professional experience. And certainly, qualitative researchers are experts in their field, honing their skills through years of experience designing and conducting research and deftly analyzing results. But this is not the only kind of expertise in qualitative research. We miss an opportunity when we don’t consider respondents to be experts in their own right – experts of their own lives and experiences, which surpasses our understanding or knowledge of the intricacies of how they navigate the world." Is learning Market Research Foundations necessary for a Chemist? 🤔 🎉 I just completed the “Market Research Foundations” course on LinkedIn Learning led by Sarah Weise. From understanding the pivotal role of market research in strategic decision-making to mastering both qualitative and quantitative research techniques. So, what's the catch? 😯 As a Chemist who is interested in the Research and Development role. Understanding the “Market Research Foundations” is necessary, because: 1. Understanding Customer Needs 🛒: The course covers qualitative research techniques like focus groups and interviews, which can help you gather in-depth insights into customer needs and preferences. This is crucial for R&D, as developing products that meet or exceed customer expectations starts with understanding those expectations. 2. Quantitative Research for Data-Driven Decisions 📊: It will teach you how to collect and analyze data to make informed decisions about product development. 3. Articulating Research Goals 🎯: Learning how to clearly define your research goals can streamline your R&D projects, ensuring they are aligned with broader business objectives. 4. Presenting Findings 🗣️: The course also teaches effective ways to present your findings, which is essential for convincing stakeholders of the value of your R&D projects and securing the necessary support. 5. Using Personas and Journey Mapping 📈: These tools can help you visualize the end-user's experience with your product, allowing for more user-centered development. In the end, these insights are valuable to ensure that your projects are well-informed, strategically aligned, and focused on meeting user needs. I'm excited to apply these insights to my future projects and contribute even more effectively! 😊🌟 #MarketResearch #LinkedInLearning #Marketing #RnD

Something I've kept with me since the days I took marketing research in school is the concept of 'Backward Market Research' ( 😉 Matt Madden). The idea disrupts the conventional research methodologies and introduces a fresh, but honestly logical, alternative: reverse-engineering the process. This method reorganizes the traditional sequence—where problems are defined, research is conducted, and applications are considered afterwards. By emphasizing the importance of ✨ starting with a clear vision of how findings will be utilized ✨ , this approach promises to significantly amplify the relevance of research outcomes. Essentially, it turns the standard paradigm on its head by prioritizing the end-use from the very beginning, ensuring that every piece of data gathered is geared towards a predefined practical application. Simple, but transformational, in how pragmatic the work can be.
