Day 33 of Bonobos Place: The final day of my challenge! Technically buildspace s5 ends this saturday with demo day, but tomorrow I go on vacation for two weeks with minimal wifi so I'll end it officially today. It's been a blast honestly, especially now that I'm finally getting the hang of godot. I had some head bashing moments figuring out collisions and signals, and I'm sure more are to come but overall its great time. I'm nowhere close to actually launching the game, but having the pressure of posting here everyday was awesome motivation for putting in at least a little bit of effort everyday. Maybe it will be ready for s6 😁 When I get back I'll continue posting my progress but at much longer intervals (weekly or monthly). Hopefully that will make the updates much more impressive! Some of these were tough. So for my last update, I cleaned up the main Crop class that all the crop scenes will inherit from, added a new strawberry crop and (sort of) fixed the bug for shifting carrots when they grow bigger than the 16px tile. It isn't perfect, because I'm grabbing the height of the carrot sprite region to adjust its position, which is 32px, but the actual image isn't that tall. So it is shifted up too far and isn't centered. Buy hey it's progress! buildspace

(Spoiler alert: it involves a lot of coffee and maybe a few lightsaber duels. 🗡️) From Spark to Space 💡 Inspired by our friends at Starlab, we had a lightbulb moment: create a space station that’s not just a structure, but a symbol of our aspirations in space. Their groundbreaking work over two years sparked our imagination, leading us to envision a station that blends functionality with futuristic aesthetics. The OOTWD Space Station was conceived as a beacon of human ingenuity and a testament to our forward-thinking vision. Creative Drafts ✏️ Using AI tools, we blended high-tech design with the unique charm of OOTWD. Drafting was an exhilarating process, mixing technical details with our brand’s aesthetics. 3D Magic and Technological Marvels 🖥️ We transformed our vision into reality with MaxonVFX Cinema4D, meticulously crafting every detail and texture to reflect the rugged, futuristic essence of space travel. Advanced tools like OTOY Octane were essential in ensuring each element was perfectly realized. Animation and Tools 🎥 With advanced animation software like AfterEffects, we brought our station to life, showcasing its functionality and beauty in the stunning yet hostile environment of space. This collaboration turned imaginative ideas into a tangible masterpiece. Final Polish ✨ In post-production, we refined every frame, light ray, and motion to ensure the final presentation was visually stunning and emotionally resonant. We even sprinkled in some Star Wars magic to celebrate our founding date—May 4th. When designing skateparks it’s important to have a clear understanding and feel for what you’re going for. So, sometimes, you’d skate the different obstacles in your mind before putting them down on paper. In this case in Netphen, I’d imagined this exact trick for the small bump-to-manual ledge. Thank you to everyone who joined us at Colab last week for an inspiring and engaging Lunch and Learn!    The day featured an interactive demonstration led by Jesper Nielsen, Design Director at Kvadrat Acoustics, where a physical scale model was brought to life acoustically, showcasing real-time impact of acoustic treatment in a space.    The panel discussion, moderated by Miriam Llano, featured Jesper Nielsen (Kvadrat Acoustics), Aleksandra Nastic (Woods Bagot), Paul Schwarz (DARL), and Vladimir Jovanovic (AECOM). Topics included the ideal stage to introduce acoustics in design projects and how to overcome the challenges of communicating the hidden value of acoustics in a visually driven market. The discussion also highlighted solutions for large-scale and specialised spaces, underlining the growing significance of acoustics in creating spaces that support both design and human wellbeing.    Thank you to our panellists and attendees for making the event a success.
