As we near the 10/15 tax deadline, I feel incredibly privileged and thankful for the amazing opportunity I find myself in. Being able to work through and experience an entire tax year as a intern has been the greatest learning experience of my accounting education. To be able to see how the profession actually work in practice, the good and the bad, was enlightening and something I would had never learned from text books. I highly recommend to every accounting student to do an internship before you finish school and if you’re interested in tax try to find a long term one. #Accounting #Busyseason #Intership #Learningexperience

Accountancy Student Spotlight: Krystof Nikola Hometown: Wall Township, NJ Residence Hall: Dunne Hall What inspired you to pursue a degree in accounting? One factor was that I enjoyed and performed well in my fundamental accounting classes. Another factor was Notre Dame's strong alumni network for accounting which made it very easy for me to get internships/jobs. How has your perception of accounting evolved since starting college? At first, I thought accountants were just responsible for maintaining the books for companies, but now I understand their job is so much more important. Accountants are responsible for accurately reporting information in financial statements to help measure business performance and allow creditors and investors to determine how to better allocate their resources. What is your favorite class you've taken and why? Favorite class: Data Analytics in Accounting. I was able to gain exposure to topics not discussed in other accounting classes, such as Excel techniques and probability distributions. What did you like best about your summer internship? What was the most important takeaway from such an experience? In my Risk & Financial Advisory internship at Deloitte, I enjoyed the networking opportunities. I got to go to Deloitte University in Texas and many venues throughout New York City to meet Deloitte professionals and other interns. One important takeaway was to take advantage of these networking opportunities. Additionally, when I had downtime throughout my internship, I was not afraid to talk to my team and ask if they needed help with anything. This not only kept me busy at work but also allowed me to contribute to my team. What advice do you have for other students aspiring to pursue a career in accounting? Try to get involved in SIBC Accounting early in college (freshman and sophomore year). Take advantage of networking events and internship opportunities, especially during sophomore year because the Big 4 accounting firms recruit many of their interns sophomore year.

Embarking on an internship at Keylynk Business Consulting Private Limited has been a highly enriching journey, blending theoretical knowledge with real-world application. As a finance intern, I immersed myself in a variety of financial tasks that significantly contributed to my professional growth and the company’s operational efficiency. The hands-on experience included critical functions such as GSTR filing, MAT calculations, and trademark registration, which allowed me to grasp the intricacies of financial compliance and regulatory frameworks. One of the key aspects of my role was to assist with GSTR filing, a task that involved ensuring accurate and timely submissions. This process not only improved my understanding of GST regulations but also highlighted the importance of meticulous attention to detail in maintaining compliance. Similarly, working on Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT) calculations provided me with valuable insights into tax strategy and financial planning, enabling me to contribute effectively to the company's tax optimization efforts. In addition to these tasks, I played a significant role in the trademark registration process. This experience underscored the importance of protecting intellectual property and enhancing brand identity. Beyond these specific tasks, my involvement in financial reporting, budget management, and expense tracking was instrumental in improving the company's financial oversight and resource allocation. These activities helped me develop a clearer understanding of how financial strategies influence overall business performance. Reflecting on my internship, I recommend a few strategies to further enhance the value of such experiences for future interns. Implementing a structured onboarding process and comprehensive training programs can help interns quickly adapt to their roles and responsibilities. Expanding the scope of intern assignments to include strategic financial projects can provide deeper learning opportunities and more substantial contributions to the company. Additionally, establishing a feedback mechanism will ensure continuous improvement and alignment with organizational goals. Overall, this internship has been a pivotal step in my professional development, equipping me with practical skills and a deeper understanding of the consulting industry. The experience has not only prepared me for future career challenges but also demonstrated the significant impact that well-structured internships can have on both individuals and organizations.
