How you start impacts how you finish. #Leadership Lessons From The #Boat Today was the first time I’ve rowed in a few weeks! Travel, work, and life sometimes get in the way. As summer race season approaches, we practiced what is called a “race start.” It’s how you efficiently get a 60 ft rowing shell with eight people of all shapes and sizes from a dead stop to race pace in 10 strokes. Imagine…. You wait…then hear… ATTENTION. ROW. 2 half strokes, 1 ¾ Stroke, 1 stroke to “lengthen”, 1 full stroke, then 5 strokes to settle to the race pace. Then, you swing a 12 ft oar into what’s called the pocket which is behind you and about the size of a legal envelope. You leverage about 200 lbs of pressure every stroke against the pressure of the water. If the timing is off, the boat is tippy which impacts speed. While not impossible, it’s hard to make up lost ground from the start. You have to practice the start. We drilled it over and over and over today. Each time was better than the one before. WHY IT MATTERS: You can’t win the race with a good start, but a bad start can lose the race. #rowing DALLAS UNITED CREW #starting #finishing Thanks for the video Amber Robidou

In the words of Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith, "I love it when a plan comes together." More than 3 years ago our friends and former clients in Sturgis mentioned they were in need of an idea that would support attendance growth from younger riders and increased participation in the last weekend of the famed Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Our team brought forward an idea that more than a few called crazy, too complex, too difficult and likely ineffective. We disagreed. Over those 3 years there were countless trips to Sturgis, city council meetings, creative renderings, partnership discussions and most importantly a belief that our solution would help the city and the rally achieve their objectives. It was a long road but one that was absolutely worth it. Today, thanks to our friends Ads of Brands, MarComm News, The Denver Egotist and LBBonline - Little Black Book, the results are in and they're incredibly positive. The reports justify the investment in the race for the local economy and the Sturgis Rally overall. Read about it here:https://lnkd.in/gNS_A_Jn It's good to be curious. It's better to be brave. #businessunusual #experiential #creative

First season of racing complete. It had everything from extreme highs and extreme lows. A class win, multiple trophies, lots of learning, great competition, mechanical challenges and of course a scary crash. 🙄 The question people often ask is, 'Why go racing?' There are many reasons not do. Cost, safety, time, ego, environmental impact, business relevance... There are however, many positive reasons that far outweigh the negatives: Product development: Both car and driver were fitted with multiple prototype Bluetooth/ANT+ sensors, detecting everything from heart rate, R-R intervals, temperature and sheer force Nm on suspension components. RF engineers will understand the challenges of broadcasting 2.4GHz around large solid objects. Try doing this on a car travelling 120+ MPH in torrential rain with extreme vibration. Teamwork: I could never have raced on my own. You need a team. Led by former racer, Callum MacGregor and chartered engineer Henry Stephens MEng CEng MIMechE, the team kept the car in top shape, making intricate setup adjustments from my feedback and making last minute strategy calls that resulted in a class win. The cliché 'you win and lose as a team' is so true. Networking: Possibly the most overused business phrase. We didn't go racing to make a name for ourselves or join a network of motorsport professionals. Yet, in one season we formed close relationships and learnt from people in different industries and have started a R&D project with an established motorsports facility (more on than to come). All because we shared a common interest. Competition: There is nothing more competitive than business, even racing. We face increased competition from larger/lower cost OEMs every year. Sometimes its good to remind yourself how important competition is. You don't just want to beat your competition, but also learn from them, respect what they do well, drive motivation, understand how they overcome similar challenges and ultimately remember - healthy competition is good.
Our 2024 Castle Combe Hot Hatch Championship campaign was ended early due to a major mechanical issue. James MacGregor finishes the season in 3rd place in Class B. We logged a tonne of valuable data from both car and driver and look forward to racing again next year. Thank you to all the great people we met this season!

#11 Christopher Medford - I genuinely believe that the most effective way to inject some excitement and unpredictability into the Formula One paddock is by fostering more competition among teams that operate independently, without any affiliations or connections to other teams. The presence of secondary teams, often referred to as 'Team 2' or 'B teams', can undermine the competitive spirit of the sport. While I'm not suggesting that teams shouldn't be allowed to purchase engines or other components from more established teams, I do think that the current setup can hinder drivers' ability to compete freely against all opponents. This is primarily because team orders might be issued to ensure that smaller, affiliated teams don't upset the strategic plans or standings of their larger, parent organisations. For example, we often see situations where a driver from a 'B team' might be subtly influenced to hold back against a driver from the main team, especially if the latter is in contention for the championship. Such dynamics can prevent races from being truly competitive spectacles, where every driver is free to challenge every other driver on the grid, without any considerations beyond their own team's success. In essence, a more level playing field, where each team is an independent entity, could lead to more thrilling races and a more engaging championship.

Formula 1 Eyes Expansion: GM Set to Join the Grid in 2026 Last updated minutes ago Formula 1 is poised to expand its grid to include an 11th team by 2026, with General Motors (GM) at the forefront of this new venture. Initially linked with Andretti Global, recent developments suggest GM might proceed independently or with a different partner, as the Andretti involvement has become uncertain due to internal restructuring and strategic shifts. This potential entry is viewed as an opportunity to inject new technology and competition into the sport, highlighting the intricate dance of team entries and branding in Formula 1. While the exact nature of GM's involvement remains fluid, the anticipation of their entry is stirring excitement and speculation within the F1 community.
