I really want to land a new role and I’m totally okay with early mornings. But when I was asked to do an interview at 5:30 AM EST for a position based in the U.S., while the recruiter was located in the U.K., it felt a bit over the top! Especially since I had already selected other time slots that were after 7 AM EST. Here are a few thoughts on why this situation can be frustrating for job seekers: Time Zone Confusion: With recruiters and candidates spread all over the globe, the time zone differences can create scheduling challenges. It can feel like you're being asked to compromise your own schedule for theirs. Awkward Questions to Avoid in Job Interviews You DO NOT want to put the interviewer in an awkward or embarrassing position. People remember how you made them feel much more than what you said. An awkward or uncomfortable feeling is definitely not what you want the interviewer to associate with you. Examples of this kind of questions that you should avoid are: - Bad Question: "I know your company just went through a major restructuring last year. Why are you hiring again this year?” - Bad: "I heard this role has been open for over 6 months already. Why are you guys taking so long to find someone?" Better ways to raise these questions are: - Better: "What are the key drivers for the current expansion in the firm?" - Better: "I heard this role has been open for over 6 months. i was offered a job in first interview. I told them i was also in interview process with another company. I asked for estimated two days to get back to them. i informed company B that i had an offer and requested expedited interview process if possible. i asked company a if I could have a couple more days and would get back to them asap. company B finally got back to me and time frame was going to be longer than expected. I decided to accept company A offer, but they decided to give it to another candidate. So everything you read here is really BS. take one-two days to decide on the offer. If you accept it, and its not your dream job, keep going with all the interviewing that comes your way. Its better to have a job than to be laid off like me and trying to be transparent with every potential employer during all the interviewing. You can always quit in probationary period just like you can be cut loose “at will”.
