For years the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) just revised its certification standards – and they’ve adopted their own guidelines for what forest is worth protecting, WITHOUT consultation of conservation NGOs and impacted communities. The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil has historically refused to cut ties with exploitative rainforest destroyers that have been proven to be violating its certification standards. If the RSPO truly wants to right the wrongs created by the #PalmOil industry, it needs to address flaws in its auditing system and adopt explicit requirements for palm oil growers to remedy lands that were taken without communities’ Free, Prior, and Informed Consent.
