#DiwaliSpecial - Very inspired by Lodha group's recent initiative of pledging USD 2.5 Bn to philanthropic causes, which is set to grow over time as it's a shareholding in the business. The impact created will be in 4 key focus areas: #WomenEmpowerment, #ChildWelfare, #EnvironmentalSustainability, and #PreservationofIndianCulture. It felt personal given my father comes from a Real Estate background. This act will surely inspire new entrepreneurs, business folks, and many more to give back to society significantly and at the right time. This once again emphasizes that any political or economic system in the world is as good as its people. Hoping for a good execution of the funds to achieve the desired impacts which are measurable. Because if the idea of Communism and Socialism has taught us anything, then it's the lesson that freebies are never good for a society for a prolonged period. Else the idea of businesses(or part of them) for impact and not solely for profits appeals to me more, which has been propagated really well by our promoter Radha Goenka >> (Links in comment section for more). Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) Legal Structure: Typically registered as non-profit organizations, exempt from taxes.    Funding: Relies on donations, grants, and fundraising.    Focus: Advocacy, awareness-raising, and direct service delivery.   Social Enterprises Legal Structure: Registered as for-profit or hybrid entities. Funding: Generates revenue through the sale of products or services.    Focus: Market-based strategies, social innovation, and sustainable business models.   Culinary for Social Change (CSC): A Bridge Between the Two CSC, while operating as a non-profit, incorporates elements of both NGO and social enterprise models. It leverages the power of food to address social issues, such as hunger and poverty. By providing hot meals and culinary skills training, CSC directly impacts communities. Additionally, the organization explores opportunities for social entrepreneurship, such as community kitchens and food businesses, to generate sustainable income and empower individuals.   The Future of Social Impact The future of social impact lies in innovative partnerships between NGOs and social enterprises. By combining the strengths of both models, organizations like CSC can create sustainable and scalable solutions to complex social problems. As the world faces increasing challenges, the need for organizations that can effectively balance social impact and financial sustainability becomes more critical.
