Mapping European Research Council - frontier research artificial intelligence | European Commission - https://lnkd.in/gF_Mt5bW The European Research Council (ERC) is the premier European funding organisation for excellent frontier research. Since its establishment in 2007, it has been a cornerstone of the EU’s research and innovation funding programmes. The ERC gives its grantees the freedom to develop ambitious research projects that can lead to advances at the frontiers of knowledge and set a clear and inspirational target for frontier research across Europe. The ERC funds a rich and diverse portfolio of projects in all fields of science and scholarship, without any predefined academic or policy priorities. These projects can have an impact well beyond science and provide frontier knowledge and innovation to help solve societal challenges and inform EU policy objectives. 📣 Guidance on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Development and Review of Research Proposals.   The federal research funding agencies are are pleased to unveil the Guidance on the Use of #ArtificialIntelligence in the Development and Review of Research Proposals. In November 2023, the agencies established a panel of external experts to provide advice on the use of generative artificial intelligence (#AI) in the development and review of research proposals submitted for grant applications. Intended for researchers in Canada and Canadian post-secondary institutions, the guidance, developed by the agencies, draws heavily on the advice from the panel and on feedback from the research community received during a public consultation period that closed in June 2024. Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) announced a federal investment of $9.6 million in Université Laval to help support the creation of a computing cluster for AI research. Funded through the Pan-Canadian Artificial Intelligence Strategy (PCAIS), this investment will help purchase state-of-the-art computing infrastructure that will allow Université Laval to host the Pan-Canadian AI Compute Environment (PAICE) platform. PAICE will be developed in collaboration with Mila – Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, the Digital Research Alliance of Canada and Calcul Québec. The Faculty of Social Sciences at Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, is gearing up to host its 3rd International Conference, which is scheduled to take place from September 3rd to 5th, 2024. The Conference, themed "Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Education, Research and Development in Africa: Issues and Challenges," promises to be a platform for intellectual discourse on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Africa's educational and developmental systems.

Next week, I’m glad to say that I have the opportunity to do a little mini tour in the Rome area and talk about some of the research we do in the research group on AI and Society at Lunds Tekniska Högskola Lunds universitet in Sweden. As part of that, I look forward to visit Viterbo and the Università degli Studi della Tuscia to talk about ”diritto e Intelligenza artificiale” (say it!), that is, legal issues related to AI. For my presentation on fairness and risks of discrimination in AI use, I’ll draw from an empirical, survey-based study on AI in recruitment we conducted in collaboration with the Swedish Equality Ombudsman Diskrimineringsombudsmannen, DO in 2023 (see below). We invite researchers (PhD students, Post-docs and senior researchers) and groups of researchers to propose projects that address specific ENFIELD challenges and contribute to new AI research and applications. These projects will develop fundamental research in the areas of Adaptive, Green, Human-Centric, and Trustworthy AI.
