Diet Coke sweetened by plant-based sweeteners In April 2023, The Coca-Cola Company started testing a limited-edition Diet Coke featuring monk fruit and stevia extracts in Minnesota after similar trials in New Zealand and Canada spanning 5 to 6 years. It boasts the words “plant-based sweeteners” in the middle and “sweetened with monk fruit and stevia extract” at the bottom on the front of the light green themed slim cans. No update on how this product performs. If it is to be introduced to more regions in the future, it could be a game changer for the stevia and monk fruit industries. During a recent discussion with industrial peers, there was speculation that key steviol glycoside in the stevia extract is reb M. Some indicated that bioconversion reb M may be at play due to very limited leaf-extracted reb M supply. We strongly disagree. Bioconversion reb M should not be labelled as stevia extract or stevia leaf extract in USA, at closest it can be labelled as stevia leaf sweetener or stevia leaf reb M or stevia reb M. Given its global reputation, there is no basis to suspect that Coke would intentionally mislabel an ingredient. Labelling reb M is complicated since it can be made by different methods. For further information on Reb M, including its production processes and labeling, please visit: https://lnkd.in/evTNzFt9. Next ingredients Coke should replace with natural alternatives on the list are potassium benzoate and phosphoric acid. Phosphoric acid serves two functions: one as an acidifier, the other as an antifungal preservative complementing benzoate which is not strong against fungi/molds. There are potential natural preservatives available to replace this combination. #plantbased #coke #stevia #steviasweetener #sweeteners #beverages

Quinoa is a type of edible seed that comes in various colors including black, red, yellow, and white. The plant has been cultivated for about 5000 years and is indigenous to the Andean region of South America, specifically Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, and Peru. https://lnkd.in/d8HJ6eym. Is quinoa a bean or rice? What is quinoa? You could argue that comparing quinoa with rice isn't fair, because quinoa isn't actually a grain. It's the seed of the goosefoot plant and a relative of beets and spinach . But quinoa is known as a pseudocereal because it's cooked and eaten like a grain and has a similar nutritional profile. https://lnkd.in/dGtwYPRf. While quinoa is an excellent source of fiber, most of the fiber found in this seed is actually insoluble. Consuming too much fiber can lead to gastrointestinal side effects such as bloating, gas, stomach cramps, or dehydration among other symptoms. https://lnkd.in/d5y9vCAA Are there any negatives to quinoa? “Saponins can cause acidity, bloating and gas, especially if quinoa is not washed properly before its consumption. fact, contains a number of irritant toxic compounds for the intestines, which can cause inflammation, digestive problems and difficulty in absorbing nutrients https://lnkd.in/dFYCzTG3.

Key quality checkpoints specific to procuring corn silage for the farm: 1. Nutrient Content Analysis: Before procuring corn silage, conduct a nutrient analysis to determine its nutritional composition, including protein, fiber, energy, and moisture content. Ensure that the silage meets the dietary requirements of Holstein Friesian cows for optimal milk production and herd health. 2. Fermentation Quality: Assess the fermentation quality of the corn silage by testing its pH level. Optimal fermentation results in a pH of around 4.0 or below, indicating successful preservation of nutrients and minimal spoilage. Procure silage with a consistent pH level within the desired range. 3. Chop Length and Grain Crushing: Evaluate the chop length of the corn silage to ensure it is suitable for Holstein Friesian cows' rumen capacity and digestion. Additionally, inquire about whether the corn silage underwent grain crushing to enhancecorn grain breakdown and improve nutrient utilization by the cows. By prioritizing these quality checkpoints during the procurement process, farms can obtain high-quality corn silage that supports optimal milk production, herd health, and overall performance.

Only a few decades ago, there were relatively few #organicfood options in this country. With the rise of nationwide chains like #WholeFoods, first started in Austin in 1980, hundreds of millions of Americans can now easily access organic meats and vegetables. The #USDA organic label ensures quality of soil, animals are given no antibiotics or hormones and are fed 100% organic feed, and agricultural practices are ecologically friendly. Going organic is healthy for you and our planet. A key component of eating organic is that you do not receive antibiotics. While antibiotics can be beneficial and necessary for patients with a level of “bad bacteria,” pathogens, they also kill bacteria bearing positive effects. As a dentist, I know that you need this “good bacteria” in the mouth. Streptococcus dentisani can help protect teeth from tooth decay. Streptococcus salivarius K12 can help reduce bad breath, and it can also help prevent infections like tonsillitis and strep throat. Lactobacillus acidophilus can help reduce inflammation and inhibit plaque formation. Bifidobacterium lactis BL04 can help promote healing after dental procedures. Nobody would voluntarily ingest antibiotics without any need to do so, but by eating non-organic, antibiotic-heavy meat, that may already be happening. What is more, the antibiotics and growth hormones used in animal rearing for non-organic meat could potentially disrupt the balance of bacteria in the mouth and contribute to inflammation in the gums, affecting periodontal tissue health. Organic meat tends to have a higher proportion of omega-3 fatty acids, which are considered anti-inflammatory, benefiting gum health compared to non-organic meat. Organic farming practices often involve a diet richer in grass and forage for animals, which can lead to a more favorable fatty acid profile in the meat, beneficial for periodontal health. I hope that our elected officials take steps to ensure that organic food becomes accessible to all Americans, regardless of socioeconomic profile. Unfortunately, the cost of organic food is disproportionately high, and Whole Foods is still the only certified organic national grocer. But, in the meantime, whenever you have a choice, choose organic. You can go to your local Whole Foods, or any supermarket as long as you look for the USDA organic label. If possible, also look for grass-fed for added benefits. Your body will thank you for it!

ESSENTIAL FEEDS IN MILK PRODUCTION After calving, a dairy cow should be fed 3kg of concentrates (dairy meal) per day depending on individual production. The animals may be challenged further by increasing their dairy meal rations for up to an optimal level. Dairy meal should be fed after milking so that the cow remains standing until the teat canal closes. This helps to avoid teat infection and mastitis. Farmers should supplement their dairy cows with yeast either in feeds or drinking water to boost milk production. Yeast fed to a dairy cow improves feed digestibility, increases feed intake and overall performance and productivity. Yeast extracts increases the number and activity of beneficial bacteria leading to increased rate of ruminal fermentation and a subsequent increase in net energy. As more organic matter is fermented per unit time, the animal is able to consume more dry matter which also increases net energy. As the number of beneficial bacteria increases, there is subsequent increase in microbial protein, which when combined with increased net energy leads to high milk production. Stimosol Oral is a well-balanced combination of yeast, vitamins, organic acids and minerals. Mineral supplements should be provided as they are essential in milk production, they improve fertility, reduce incidences of retained placenta and also contributes to development of strong bones in the growing foetus. Granular mineral salts should be mixed with feeds in a feeding trough or fed with the concentrates. It may be necessary to moisten the granular mineral licks to prevent dusting during licking as this predisposes the cows to respiratory problems. Provide mineral salts at a rate of 150g for every 5 litres of milk produced, and an extra 60g for every 5 extra litres. Free lick Intromin Mineral block should be availed at all times. Wholesome drinking water must be available all the time. #DairyFarming
