Quinoa is a type of edible seed that comes in various colors including black, red, yellow, and white. The plant has been cultivated for about 5000 years and is indigenous to the Andean region of South America, specifically Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, and Peru. https://lnkd.in/d8HJ6eym. Is quinoa a bean or rice? What is quinoa? You could argue that comparing quinoa with rice isn't fair, because quinoa isn't actually a grain. It's the seed of the goosefoot plant and a relative of beets and spinach . But quinoa is known as a pseudocereal because it's cooked and eaten like a grain and has a similar nutritional profile. https://lnkd.in/dGtwYPRf. While quinoa is an excellent source of fiber, most of the fiber found in this seed is actually insoluble. Consuming too much fiber can lead to gastrointestinal side effects such as bloating, gas, stomach cramps, or dehydration among other symptoms. https://lnkd.in/d5y9vCAA Are there any negatives to quinoa? “Saponins can cause acidity, bloating and gas, especially if quinoa is not washed properly before its consumption. fact, contains a number of irritant toxic compounds for the intestines, which can cause inflammation, digestive problems and difficulty in absorbing nutrients https://lnkd.in/dFYCzTG3.

Only a few decades ago, there were relatively few #organicfood options in this country. With the rise of nationwide chains like #WholeFoods, first started in Austin in 1980, hundreds of millions of Americans can now easily access organic meats and vegetables. The #USDA organic label ensures quality of soil, animals are given no antibiotics or hormones and are fed 100% organic feed, and agricultural practices are ecologically friendly. Going organic is healthy for you and our planet. A key component of eating organic is that you do not receive antibiotics. While antibiotics can be beneficial and necessary for patients with a level of “bad bacteria,” pathogens, they also kill bacteria bearing positive effects. As a dentist, I know that you need this “good bacteria” in the mouth. Streptococcus dentisani can help protect teeth from tooth decay. Streptococcus salivarius K12 can help reduce bad breath, and it can also help prevent infections like tonsillitis and strep throat. Lactobacillus acidophilus can help reduce inflammation and inhibit plaque formation. Bifidobacterium lactis BL04 can help promote healing after dental procedures. Nobody would voluntarily ingest antibiotics without any need to do so, but by eating non-organic, antibiotic-heavy meat, that may already be happening. What is more, the antibiotics and growth hormones used in animal rearing for non-organic meat could potentially disrupt the balance of bacteria in the mouth and contribute to inflammation in the gums, affecting periodontal tissue health. Organic meat tends to have a higher proportion of omega-3 fatty acids, which are considered anti-inflammatory, benefiting gum health compared to non-organic meat. Organic farming practices often involve a diet richer in grass and forage for animals, which can lead to a more favorable fatty acid profile in the meat, beneficial for periodontal health. I hope that our elected officials take steps to ensure that organic food becomes accessible to all Americans, regardless of socioeconomic profile. Unfortunately, the cost of organic food is disproportionately high, and Whole Foods is still the only certified organic national grocer. But, in the meantime, whenever you have a choice, choose organic. You can go to your local Whole Foods, or any supermarket as long as you look for the USDA organic label. If possible, also look for grass-fed for added benefits. Your body will thank you for it!

Research finds that sunflower seeds are frequently contaminated with a toxin produced by moulds and pose an increased health risk in many low-income countries worldwide: https://lnkd.in/ek2gut5p As a general rule I recommend you avoid, or minimise, your consumption of seed oils for the reasons outlined in this article (they’re highly processed, high in omega 6 fatty acids, pro-inflammatory and usually found in unhealthy, processed food): https://lnkd.in/eGJEvUxc My preferred choices for healthy fats (aside from those found in the organic whole foods I eat) are organic olive oil and coconut oil. Organic avocado and walnut oil are ok though I don’t use either with any regularity. Naturally you will find articles online with opposing views, so please do your research and make up your own mind.

A complex evolution: From pellets to soft organic formulations. Animal feed production has evolved considerably, driven by the growing demand for health-conscious diets and the diverse needs of species ranging from pets to farm animals. The once-standard feed pellet has given way to more specialised formulations, including organic, grain-free and cold-pressed raw varieties. These feeds emphasize not only nutrition, but also the preservation of natural enzymes and nutrients, especially in minimally processed products. The expansion of feed types requires precision in production processes to meet specific nutritional needs and maintain feed quality. Precision in feed formulation goes beyond nutrient content and now includes factors such as particle size, which directly affects nutrient absorption and digestive efficiency. For example, cold-pressed raw pellets and soft pellets offer better digestibility for young or sensitive animals. Meanwhile, functional feeds enriched with probiotics or omega-3 fatty acids are increasingly important for supporting specific health outcomes such as gut health or immunity in both pets and livestock. The diversity of feed formulations presents increasing challenges to manufacturers, who need to adopt advanced technologies to manage this complexity. MOGENSEN's MSizer Compact ensures consistent particle size and screening accuracy, essential for both traditional pellet production and more delicate soft blends. Its ability to adjust screening parameters means that manufacturers can efficiently produce high quality, nutrient-specific feed while optimizing energy use and minimizing waste, in line with the industry's drive towards an increasingly sustainable production. #animalfeed #precisionnutrition #functionalfeed #sustainableproduction
