As I close the chapter on an intense but fun three-week journey at #MIG2024, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to tackle a real-world industry challenge. Through the weeks I have developed bonds with my interdisciplinary team and together, we have learnt key concepts from diverse industry experts to hone our skills in innovation. The concept that struck a chord with me was how diversity and collaboration are superpowers. Hearing from Elias Lebbos, CEO at Travellers AID Australia, who has a wealth of experience interacting with various stakeholders. He said, “True Collaboration is (asking yourself) how can I contribute to the end goal.” This notion shifted my perception, emphasising that every individual has value to the team and that every individual has something to contribute when you are able to be open and honest. This sentiment can be echoed through my team of fellow students when we tackled our Microsoft challenge statement. Combining insights from our diverse backgrounds, we were able to foster a deeper understanding of how each of us approaches problem-solving with our industry partner Microsoft. This culminated in a unified team where we were able to discuss and build upon each other’s inputs. By considering the co-design principles from Sam Rye, we generated multiple AI-infused learning experience ideas to address the challenge. In light of this, my next venture is clear. I’m committed to seeking out innovation workshops that connect people from diverse backgrounds in the IT industry. I believe continuing to immerse myself in these environments will help me flourish in applying the skills that I have learned in the MIG. This journey has been more than an educational experience; it has helped kickstart professional relationships with industry partners at MIG and created wonderful friendships. I again thank the industry partners at Microsoft for not only giving us a path in approaching the challenge statement but also the opportunity to visit the office. I am so grateful to have been given a chance to learn about what Microsoft has to offer and the role AI has in that. Also, a special acknowledgement to my coach Rehan Mendis, for aiding to refine my holistic skills. As I move forward, I'm excited to apply these principles, building bridges across disciplines to unlock new realms of possibility.
