Maister & Green's Trust Equation https://bit.ly/3SHX5fO reared its head for me the other day... in a doctors appointment. I was there to get a second opinion from a physician that many consider the best in the midwest for minimally invasive spine surgery. I met his PA first, who was delightful. Then "the man" arrived...curt, short responses, self absorbed, touting his experience of "over 6000" procedures, subtly disparaging other surgeons, evasive in answering questions. Look, I simply wanted to gather as much info as possible....and feel better and informed about my decision. He made me feel marginalized, to the point of suggesting I was overreacting... well yeah, it's SPINE surgery! Anyway, I was so taken aback and downright angry, and walked out thinking, "I'd rather go to someone who might not be #1...but who is close, AND who listens, empathizes, minimizes self orientation..someone I could truly TRUST." Sound familiar? I've seen this same story play out in the pro services sector time and time again: a service provider who is considered "one of the best" loses the business to another firm because they made it about themselves, and not the client! #trust #trustequation #selforientation #empathy

True words were never spoken. I often have the same conversation with patients. In this age where patients are able to access imaging reports, this information must be put into context. It will sometimes strike fear into the hearts of patients. However, without a history, physical examination, and some expert analysis, may not be directly applicable to why the patient sought help in the first place. I love this analogy. Imaging is useful to answer specific technical questions (which may or may not be on a report) so as to answer a clinical question of offering one treatment or another, or to plan a specific customized patient specific surgical steps - à la carte. It is intelligence gathering to perform a precision approach, not a shotgun.
Do you expect your MRI report to say “normal”? I hope not. 😂 Age appropriate changes occur. Often. Even things listed as “tears,” aren’t truly tears. And the vast majority of these age appropriate changes do not require surgery.

I, for one, didn't ask to be born a woman. Otherwise, there are things I would have rejected vehemently. It is now 3 months since I underwent fibroid surgery after so much anxiety, and in the video above, I stated what I think everyone should do to help. ______ Give the women in your life hugs every day. It is not a day's job to be a woman. #myomectomy #fibroid #womenhealth #gynae #gynaecology #msVeraChidera #publichealth Do you think fibroid can be cured permanently without surgery?
