Horizontal eccentric strength What are you seeing in these two split squats – flywheel (FSS) and traditional (TSS)? If you had a force plate under the split squats, what do you think you would see? Most likely greater anterior-posterior or horizontal forces for the FSS given the line of resistive pull/vector of the rackfly. So what? In the elderly this could help reduce falls risk big time, given many falls are associated with going downstairs. In the athletic, horizontal decelerative capability is a much-desired attribute in optimising sports performance e.g. changing direction. In the injured, this would be a great exercise to restore eccentric function given the user autoregulates the overload by altering range of motion and velocity of movement.
