Check out CBM Global’s Organisations of People with Disabilities (OPD) Capacity Strengthening summary document, where CBM Australia has gathered insights to enhance their approach to working with OPDs 👉 bit.ly/3NTuuCn Across CBM Global, there is focused and active commitment to work alongside people with disabilities and their representative organisations, OPDs. In 2023, CBM Australia undertook an enquiry exploring the approaches, challenges and lessons from their OPD Capacity Strengthening engagement across their programs and advisory groups. This document summarises key learnings from those in CBM Global working closely with and seeking feedback from OPDs. These learnings can help refine their approach as they consider commitments made in ‘We have a key role now’ [see https://lnkd.in/g-FygNpn] and commitments made at the Global Disability Summit in 2022. International Disabilities Day - it’s important to remember and consider those who aren’t just flying through life without physical or mental disabilities. Having been exposed to a world of children born with heart conditions and other serious organ misplacements (or missing) when our daughter was born, and then encountering myself first hand the impacts of GBS and Long Covid over a year ago now, it’s even more important we look out for, listen to and support those suffering. Some invisible illnesses like MND, long covid, ME, the list goes on, may not be obvious, but as society and as a company we all need to make sure we support those and make it a safe space to discuss. Some people talk DE&I, but we all need to beat that drum, which is why I’m proud to be a core member of the Disabilities and Allies Network at DSSmith. Bit by bit we can all do our bit to help make society easier for all. What will you do this week to help improve it? #DEI #disabilityawareness #longcovidsupport #chd #mnd #me #dssmith #equalityandinclusion

To support professionals working with disabled children, adults with learning disabilities and their families, Research in Practice has released several new open access resources and events for #LearningDisabilityWeek. This includes a new resource, co-published by Research in Practice and the Council for Disabled Children, the briefing explores the challenges faced by disabled children and families when requesting support. It also examines local authorities’ statutory responsibilities when assessing needs, applying eligibility criteria, and providing services. The briefing looks at the benefits of adopting a strengths-based and needs-led approach to assessment and key features of a needs-led eligibility framework and how this can inform a lawful and transparent approach to providing services for disabled children and their families.
