The Elephant in the room 🐘 'The way we talk about Dying Matters’, is this years theme for dying matters week, we have chosen to go with the concept of talking about the elephant in the room and having those uncomfortable difficult conversations. We visited some shops followed by walk round the hospice asking people to answer a question which created a buzz and made conversations start. it's SUDEP Action Day! What is SUDEP? Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. Approx 1/1000 people with epilepsy die every year from SUDEP. It is estimated that 3m people in the US have epilepsy. Thats 3,000 deaths per year of people that pass suddenly, leaving the family/friends with zero answers. Often, many people with epilepsy have no idea why they have it, so there is little way to even prevent this. How can we be prepared in the workplace to support our team members with epilepsy? -Think through what (if any) accommodations can be made. -Educate on seizure first aid. -Have updated emergency contacts. -Show empathy & support.
