In Jinja, small-scale farmers are being urged to join the National Seed Oil Project (NSOP), which aims to produce raw materials for vegetable cooking oil. Richard Gulume Balyaino, the Jinja RDC, encouraged farmers to transition from sugar cane to fast-growing crops like soybeans, groundnuts, sesame, and sunflowers. These crops mature in about ninety days, offering quicker returns and reducing poverty. The project, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development and led by the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, will be piloted in Butagaya and Busedde sub-counties. Honoring Blue Revolution National Fish Farmer's Day is celebrated on 10th July every year to recognize and appreciate the invaluable contributions of fish farmers, aquaculture industry professionals, and other stakeholders toward ensuring a sustainable and thriving fisheries sector. The farmers of Liti village in Bageshwar, Uttarakhand (India) have taken a unique initiative with the support of Fishery department. They have initiated community fish farming where 4-5 farmers have collectively constructed trout fish ponds and doing trout farming. They manage the fish ponds on rotation basis i.e., one week per family and the sale from the production is shared among all families. Collective construction, sharing of cost construction and roational management of pond makes it unique and successful model that could be replicated in other mountain areas. This unique way of fishery has diversified the income of the farmers, enterprise development, added essential protein to their diet, improved livelihoods, increased farm tourism and minimized migration from the village.
