What a feeling!! Watching your kids bring their best selves to a sport....exhilarating! All that crazy nervous energy, the yelling, the jumping around....I loved it!! I enjoyed the parent comradery, the coaching, the kids, the hours of driving. The win, the try hard moments AND...the losses. The overwhelming and powerful in-the-moment grief AND pride that we collectively felt for a game well played. I love it all! However, from the perspective of the kid...it can sometimes feel like a tremendous amount of pressure mounting from every angle. Such talents emerged from environments that nurtured individuality rather than imposed strict guidelines. Our role as coaches should be to create spaces where players can explore and develop their unique abilities. When we overly organize and dictate every move, we stifle the creative spirit that makes soccer so dynamic. It's not about telling players they must do this or that, but rather providing the right conditions for them to discover and harness their natural talents.
