🌱 Shroffs Foundation Trust at the Community Conference on Commons 2024 🌊 We are proud to have been a panelist at the Community Conference on Commons 2024 organized by the Foundation for Ecological Security (FES), where we presented under the theme Water Governance. Our panel, featuring stories shared by community members, showcased impactful initiatives from Chhotaudepur that have transformed lives: ✅ 35,000 ha treated through irrigation structures and watershed development. ✅ Conversion of unproductive dolomite mines in Zer into water-harvesting structures, now irrigating 2,500 ha and enabling a shift from maize to cash crops like cotton. 🔍 Using Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and GIS-based mapping, our community-centric microplanning identified and prioritized watershed needs, ensuring effective land and water resource management. 💧 Pani Samitis, community-led water committees, have been pivotal in maintaining water-harvesting structures and ensuring equitable resource sharing—fostering long-term sustainability and resilience. This effort underscores the power of treating water as a shared community resource. By embracing collaborative watershed management, we are building stronger, more sustainable rural livelihoods and enhancing food security for tribal farming communities. Day 30 of a #sharednarrative for #Plymouth: A specific shout out for Belong in Plymouth! Plymouth is one of 5 projects nationwide that are exploring how to tackle complex health inequalities. In Plymouth we are developing a network called Belong in Plymouth; connecting individuals who aspire to make Plymouth a city where no one feels forgotten. The sheer scale and complexity of isolation and its effects on health mean we know we need to explore and search for answers together - NHS, Statutory Services, the VCSE and individual citizens. This includes deepening our understanding of the system and context together through listening and conversations with communities where they are heard as respected peers. So far we have spent £345,000 and with this we have: Collected 120 conversations resulting in 790+ fragments, 53 factors, 12 themes, 1 map: https://buff.ly/47WjD3x We have 13 young people leading their own work and 22 local residents participating in co-creation processes. Engaged with 399 participants through wider events (e.g. Neighbourhood democracy, Hope in the Heart, Health is Wealth), 198 through sensemaking workshops, 105 through conversation processing workshops. So much potential, so much opportunity was the theme of the awesome Meri Fatin's Space Ship Earth conversation at Lawson Flats last night. I adored the insightful Heidi Mippy's take on what it is to be a connected human, and the role that pausing, country and nature will have in showing us the way. Nicole Lockwood's transformational system dot connectors and change agents are who we want to aspire to be, and Adam Carrel's ENOUGH people who look the same, sound the same, like the same, having the same conversations, and nodding at the same stories of BBQs, renovations and Rottnest while protecting each other's backs and lifestyle may not be enough to get us there certainly sounds valid to us. Meanwhile, Adrian Fini and Hesperia take on extending Kings Park down the terrace and the economic value of protecting and re-wilding our City as other capital cities, and countries around the world are doing has our vote. At Place.ID we commit to socialising and standing up for these things that matter and the creating an identity that we feel proud of, even if we get a little bruised and battered along the way. AND YES Heidi Mippy - having had a very similar conversation on intergenerational families on the land last week, my head was trying to process how 3-4 generations on the land, equates in anyway to 10s of or 100s of thousands of years on this country! The intergenerational pain of seeing your beautiful forested home ridden over by small white men with guns must still feel so raw and real.
