Previous posts provided some examples of funding available for water type projects. One of the issues with funding is that application can be quite cumbersome and bureaucratic for a relatively small amount of money. When you multiply that by three or four organisations with relatively minor funding, you could easily spend an inordinate amount of time dealing with applications forms, without a huge bang for your buck. That's not saying don't apply because every project counts, HOWEVER, that said, this grant is worth fighting for. The OUTDOOR RECREATION INFRASTRUCTURE FUND. Liffey Projects from previous ORIS funds include, Ballymore Eustace Golden Falls Loop, and Feasibility Studies on establishing or broadening riparian parks and connections at Corbally / Athgarvan and Celbridge Leixlip.

The City Of Hermosa Beach City Council has approved the 2024 Parks Master Plan, a 30-year roadmap for enhancing the city’s parks and recreation facilities based on extensive community input. Top priorities include adding pickleball courts, a public swimming pool, and a dog park, alongside playground upgrades, a skate park, improved ADA accessibility, and expanded programs for youth and seniors. The plan positions parks as a critical element of community life in Hermosa Beach, enhancing health, well-being, and satisfaction among residents and visitors. As Hermosa Beach continues to grow, the master plan provides a roadmap for addressing both current and future recreational needs.

Ever heard of Norfolk, Nebraska? Despite several road trips through Nebraska and along its many waterways, I had not, but they installed a three-mile long whitewater park with seven engineered rocky rapids through a section of town that opened in June of this year. The recreation infrastructure design and installation was not only to implement whitewater park type access for tubing, SUP, kayaking, and more, but also will provide greenways along the side for walking and therein opportunities to combat climate change and provide heat and historic flooding mitigation and relief for the community. The installation has already drawn voluminous rave reviews and appears to be an economic driver for the area. Public access to usable waterways, which also is strategically designed to perform other community functions is important as we face higher temperatures and related storm and flooding escalation. It's a good reminder that the public should have access to water to cool down and by doing so a community can help manage individual, community, and society costs and challenges by providing larger scale public solutions in addition to or over costly individual and inequitable access options. Oh, and let's remember that such installations can introduce and create our next generation of Olympic whitewater athletes. https://lnkd.in/gzpZcWDP

We will be cleaning up the Holbert Trailhead on South Mountain in South Phoenix! Difficulty: Difficult Access: Start at the Park Main Entranced. Take the first left on to Phoenix South Mountain Park. From this road, proceed to Holbert Trailhead to continue onto Holbert Trail. This trail offers a steady climb to the upper areas of South Mountain Park. Hike the extension trail that leads to Dobbins Lookout and be rewarded with a magnificent view of the valley below. The Holbert Trail also provides a route to connect with the National Trail just east of the T.V. Towers and west of Buena Vista Lookout. Distance: 2.5 mi Elevation Change: 1,100 ft. Hiking is an excellent low-impact workout, and is an outdoor activity delivering benefits beyond scenic and fun. Below are five reasons to hike with your kids: 1. Exercise. 2. Build self-confidence 3. Exposure to wildlife 4. Practice “Leave no trace” A great opportunity to talk about why we do not leave our trash in the park, and what happens to the litter that is left behind. 5. Unplug together We all know that kids spend a lot of time using digital media, and it is true for adults as well. Heading out for a family hike is a great way to take a break from your devices and connect with each other and the outdoors for a while instead. Make sure you dress appropriately!! If we are going to save our planet, we need to get strategic about the jobs we create, and how we educate the public about why preserving nature matters. Would crimes like this happen if we had funding for more marketing and community climate education? Do parks need more funding for tree security? Thousands of people are out of work and not counted in unemployment, because they are "contractors" or gig workers. Can we get smart and solve two problems at once? https://lnkd.in/eNGrV6XB #trees #vandalism #climateeducation #climatechange #arborist #tree #nycparks

💚Eco tourism, 🌿 nature tourism, 🐷 agri-tourism? Or just good old fashioned camping ⛺? Whatever you want to call it, there is so much great stuff going on to bring together nature recovery projects with experiences for visitors. You don't have to be a twitcher, a soil nerd, or a budding botanist to enjoy these opportunities and as the chance to stay at Nattergal Ltd's #BoothbyWildland in Lincolnshire this summer shows, a stay in one of these exciting regenerating landscapes is a chance to really connect with nature and if you fancy it, to learn something too (I mean who doesn't want to know more about river re-wriggling?!). We are only just beginning to unlock the opportunity for new visitor experiences connected to landscape recovery, #rewilding and #regenerative farming and there is so much potential to create opportunities for people to connect with nature and enjoy all the health benefits that brings. And, for those pioneering new ways of managing the land, it's also a great way to generate additional income streams and to spread the regenerative land management message. Such an exciting space to be working in at Rural Solutions and to know there are some brilliant new hotels, camping, glamping and visitor experiences coming soon - all with nature recovery at their heart. #ecotourism #naturetourism #agritourism #rewilding #sustainabletourism
🏕️ Camping & Glamping Pop-Up at #BoothbyWildland, Lincolnshire 🌳🌍 This August, we'll be playing host to campers and glampers from far and wide. A great opportunity to become immersed in the world of rewilding. 🌿🌎 Boothby is in the early stages of its nature restoration journey, offering a valuable insight into the planning stages and early interventions that will eventually lead to a highly biodiverse, rewilded landscape. 🌱🌿🌳 There are already so many wonderful signs of nature fighting back at Boothby, from oak saplings in the fields to exciting new bird calls. The team will be hosting regular rewilding tours and bird ringing demos during the pop-up, alongside weekly volunteering activities. Meet the rewilding experts, visit the projects in action (including the river re-wiggling and beaver plans), join forces with community supporters, and indulge in the restorative effects of nature. What better way to spend your summer break! ☀️🌿🌼 For further information and bookings, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/evtWf4QR We look forward to welcoming some of you soon.

How to go wild ; outdoor etiquettes 🌳 New outdoors enthusiast? We’re thrilled that you are willing to give the outdoors a try. Nature is truly amazing, but to ensure that everyone can enjoy it equally, certain etiquettes apply. Don’t worry, they’re easy to follow and guarantee a pleasant experience. Here are five rules to keep in mind during your next adventure in the great outdoors. 1️⃣Do not disturb wildlife: keep your distance from wildlife be aware you're a visitor in their home and they need their space Observing wildlife is best from a distance. While in the wild, it is crucial to practice quiet observation which involves refraining from touching, feeding, or picking up animals. Such measures promote safety for both humans and wildlife and respect the animals' natural habitat. 2️⃣Follow the leave-no-trace principles The Leave No Trace attitude is centered around seven principles that actively encourage the preservation of the outdoors for future generations. These principles serve as a guide to help us make conscious decisions and minimize our impact on the outdoors. Read about them by clicking this link! https://leavenotrace.ca/ Since these principles are regularly revised and updated, it’s a good idea to check back often to stay in the loop. 3️⃣Be aware of your surroundings: use your phone sparingly, discreetly and always be aware of your surroundings. It can be hard to detach ourselves from our phones, even in nature! However, while in the outdoors, it’s important to be mindful of how our phone usage impacts others. Avoid playing loud music, making disruptive phone calls, or obstructing others while capturing photos. By doing so, we not only respect fellow outdoor enthusiasts, but we also contribute to our safety and the well-being of wildlife and their habitats. 4️⃣Listen to your body: take your time, enjoy the scenery and breathe in fresh air. Remember, when it comes to the outdoors, it is not a competition. Your goal should be to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. If it means taking multiple breaks or spending extra time at the scenic viewpoints, then go for it! The beauty of nature is that it can be appreciated at your own pace. 5️⃣Be friendly and have fun: make yourself known on the trail by offering a simple hello or head nod. As they say, a smile goes a long way. Outdoor enthusiasts are known for their friendly nature, and you too can contribute to the community. On your next adventure, keep the positive energy flowing and spread kindness wherever you go. So, now that you have the tools, go ahead and enjoy the outdoors!
