The rove beetle is a valuable ally in sugarcane cultivation, serving as a natural predator to various pests such as aphids, whiteflies, and scale insects. By preying on these harmful insects, rove beetles reduce the need for pesticides, promoting a more sustainable and eco-friendly approach to sugarcane production. Additionally, rove beetles contribute to pollination and decomposition processes, further enhancing sugarcane yields and soil health. By conserving rove beetle populations, sugarcane farmers can harness their benefits and create a more resilient and balanced ecosystem. #Rove_Beetle

The hidden life in our soil - Microbes and Composting Date: Sat Dec 14, 2024 Time: 09:45 AM GMT Location: Askrigg Village Hall Come and join us to discover more about the fungi, bacteria, nematodes, protozoa, and arthropods that inhabit our soil and plants, making up the hidden world beneath our feet. We will discuss the key role these tiny organisms play in keeping our soil healthy and in turn plants and animals that eat them healthy. How microbes:- cycle nutrients, provide plant nutrition, provide plant growth hormones, provide plant disease protection, allow plants to communicate, create soil structure, are crucial in water cycles and carbon sequestration and making farms (and gardens) resilient to climate change. How this in turn can reduce the need for artificial fertilisers and chemicals, reducing costs of growing grass and other crops. We will go through nutrient cycling in the Soil Food Web and talk about Rhizophagy - how plants "eat bacteria" to harvest nutrients. Following that we will move onto composting and how we can create our own inoculum of microbes to spray or spread. Touching on thermal composting, Johnson Su static piles, worm composting and using Bokashi / Effective microbes with FYM, slurry and food waste. We will have a microscope hooked up to a big screen to show you first-hand what is and is not in our soils and compost. Open to all and whilst aimed at farmers there is relevance to all involved in growing plants of any sort. Today is #WorldWaterDay. Water is essential for farming — and life on Earth. Here are a few ways Weiland Farms is working to help protect this precious resource. 1. Strategically planting vegetation near bodies of water, which naturally filters out contaminants. This helps reduce potential risks related to water regulations and treatment costs. 2. Honing the types and timing of our nutrient applications. The goal is to help plants absorb exactly what they need, when they need it, which minimizes excess nutrients in our waterways. 3. Naturally sourcing one-third of our nitrogen, which drastically reduces our reliance on synthetically supplied alternatives. This helps improve soil health, which can improve water retention capabilities. Taking these steps towards a more natural approach not only helps us farm more sustainably, it helps us be more efficient. Meaning we make every drop count. #WaterActions #SustainableFarming

🌍 Restoring Nature with Humuson 🌍 Humuson is more than an innovative product—it’s a commitment to restoring our planet’s delicate ecosystems. Made from sapropel, a freshwater lake sediment that has naturally decomposed in non-aerobic conditions for over 10,000 years, Humuson is rich in over 40 different nutritional elements. Through the careful extraction of sapropel, we not only create a powerful solution but also contribute to the revival of freshwater lakes. This process prevents lakes from drying out, revitalizes fish populations, beetle colonies, and other essential participants in the ecosystem. 🌿 Even more importantly, this restoration process increases the lake’s ability to absorb carbon dioxide, playing a vital role in combating climate change. 🌱 At PakWin Solutions, we’re thrilled to partner with Sapropel Organics USA to bring you a highly effective and economical organic fertilizer.
