'Ivory trafficker was arrested in Aceh' The Aceh police arrested an ivory trader allegedly tried to sell two raw elephant ivories. The trade of raw elephant ivory is one of the most covert wildlife parts trades in Indonesia, alongside rhino horn. This high value and demand incentivize traffickers to adopt more covert methods to avoid detection and ensure successful transactions. The traders that obtain raw ivory from poachers usually hide the ivory for a while, aiming to assess the situation post-hunt. Elephant poaching is relatively susceptible to detect because the poachers leave behind elephant carcass, which are relatively easy to spot. When the perpetrators are not caught, or the case is not revealed by the police, the efforts to sell the elephant ivory will be made. In this case, we also need to consider that north-eastern Aceh is an entry point for wildlife smuggling from abroad, including animals from Africa, it should also be suspected that the ivory sold in Aceh does not always come from the poaching of Sumatran elephants, where identification using DNA can address this suspicion.

Our police personnel are trained peace building and conflict resolution specialists, having a sworn oath to protect lives and properties. Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution are two main pillars of leadership quality, essential for security forces. Although the majority of our men and women in blue discharge their sworn duties diligently and in accordance with their code of ethics, only a few with low mental capacity seems to tarnish the good reputation by taking the law into their own hands just because their emotions overwhelm their ability to reason and provide that leadership to resolve. These kinds of officers who continue to abuse the code of ethics have poor leadership and reasoning skills hence are no good fit for this noble institution - they must be dismissed to make room for more personnel with moral and the discipline to uphold the ethics of the force while discharging duties by enforcing the law through discipline and leadership character. If the leadership hierarchy of police force can drive this reform as vital in all its command, crime rate as well as social problems will improve significantly and impact the growth of PNG's economy.
