Billions for infrastructure across Australia. The Australian Defence Force will be better equipped to defend Australia’s north thanks to $14 billion to $18 billion in funding for resilient bases under the 2024 Integrated Investment Program. Infrastructure improvements at Cocos (Keeling) Islands airfield will better support maritime surveillance operations by P-8A Poseidon aircraft. Development of the Defence estate across Darwin and Townsville will address force posture requirements and enhance an integrated, focused force, as outlined in the 2024 National Defence Strategy. Other funding includes upgrades to RAAF Bases Learmonth and Tindal, as well as new ADF littoral manoeuvre facilities in northern Australia and south-east Queensland, along with new berthing facilities at Darwin's Larrakeyah Defence Precinct. Money also covers air base remediation across northern Australia, including major maintenance at RAAF Base Darwin and Mount Bundey Airfield, as well as redevelopment of RAAF Base Townsville and airfield works at RAAF Bases Curtin and Learmonth. Further south, $17 billion to $22 billion is allocated for infrastructure across key Defence facilities, including upgrades to training institutions. The Australian Government is investing over $83 million to deliver vital Defence infrastructure upgrades at HMAS Stirling in Western Australia. Ensuring the Australian Defence Force has fit-for-purpose facilities and infrastructure is critical for its capability and preparedness.   This investment will span across 32 projects at Stirling, including remediation and maintenance of the Parkes Wharf, tunnel maintenance and building refurbishments. HMAS Stirling supports Royal Australian Navy vessels based in the West. From 2027 Submarine Rotational Force – West will be established at Stirling, in the lead up to it becoming home to Australia’s future conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines, an $8 billion investment.     HMAS Stirling has already hosted two visits from United States conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines since the AUKUS announcement in March 2023, and these upgrades will be critical in ensuring Australia is prepared to host US and UK submarines as part of SRF-West.   Assistant Minister for Defence, the Hon Matt Thistlethwaite MP, has commented:  “Ensuring our Defence sites are equipped to meet operational and capability requirements, now and in the future is essential to keeping Australians safe. “These projects, to be delivered by local businesses in the Perth region, are supporting local jobs and creating opportunities in the trades and construction industries.”   📸 Image of aerial of Fleet Base West (HMAS Stirling) courtesy: Defence Read further here https://bit.ly/3U5OLIB

Three projects were dedicated at Woodring Regional Airport last week. These projects were funded in part by the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation, with collaboration from the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics, the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, and the Oklahoma Strategic Military Planning Commission. These projects, including a new joint-use hangar and a south ramp reconstruction project, will enhance Woodring’s ability to meet the needs of the aviation industry, providing additional capacity and support for the local community and Vance Air Force Base. “This Defense Community Infrastructure Program project demonstrates the success that can be achieved when defense communities’ partner with their local installations to deliver necessary civilian infrastructure for the local mission,” OLDCC Director Patrick O'Brien said. “This project doesn’t just support Vance Air Force Base by expanding operational capabilities and enhancing the readiness of the training mission for undergraduate pilots, but is also noteworthy for being in a community previously represented by former Senator James Inhofe, a former mayor and huge advocate for this program and its ability to enable defense communities across our country to deliver critical support for our installations.” #infrastructure #defense #military #airport
