The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is advancing efforts to make virtual care more accessible by proposing the elimination of copays for these services. Additionally, the VA aims to establish a grant program that funds access points in rural and underserved communities. These access points, located in non-VA facilities, would provide veterans with private spaces equipped with high-speed internet and the technology needed to connect with VA providers remotely. This initiative is particularly vital for veterans in areas where distance and limited resources often hinder access to timely care. By removing financial barriers and addressing connectivity challenges, the VA is not only expanding access but also setting a precedent for how virtual care can bridge the gap in healthcare equity. Safety is critically important for patients and the healthcare workforce. Today, our National Action Alliance for Patient and Workforce Safety (NAA), led by AHRQ, launched the National Healthcare Safety Dashboard, a comprehensive resource for hospital safety data. https://lnkd.in/esbBkZhc

Throughout the past decade, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has experienced significant growth and difficulty implementing reforms that guarantee veterans receive timely access to quality health care. For VA to maintain its role as the primary provider of timely and quality care, it must address the challenge of an aging infrastructure by improving its internal capacity through the construction and modernization of facilities. Unfortunately, VA medical facilities have a median age of nearly 60 years, which poses a challenge with renovations. Facilities of this era were not designed to accommodate the technological and design innovation needs that support modern health care delivery systems. H.R. 3225, the BUILD for Veterans Act, aims to enhance the VA's capital asset program by improving planning and oversight, providing more consistent funding, and strengthening capabilities to start and complete projects to better serve veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors. In keeping with the support provided for the Senate version of this bill, S. 42, DAV also supports H.R. 3225, in accordance with DAV Resolution No. 247, calling for modernization of the VA’s health care infrastructure to provide veterans with the quality care and benefits they deserve.

You say you do great prehospital medicine....but how do you know? There is something very special about having a strong data set as the foundation for making changes to the way an industry operates. Sometimes change happens because we see someone else lead the way in pioneering a new medication or treatment or there is literature that suggests the best practice has shifted (#saynotopastawater); sometimes we change because we're mandated to. Regardless, it's great to be part of an organization working to make the data that supports that change accessible so that prehospital medicine can continue to stay up to date as a critically valuable part of the healthcare system.
