Sand VS Chalk 🤝 Slurries of sand in water shown in the video are fast settling, whereas slurries of chalk in water are pretty slow settling. Why is this important? Well, carbon-bound catalysts behave similarly to the chalk slurry. As you can see, when we stop shaking the vials the sand slurry settles out much faster than the chalk slurry. Settling out very slowly over time, this is what makes carbon-bound catalysts extremely easy to feed into our Coflore flow reactors using simple equipment such as peristaltic pumps. Faster-settling solids, like magnesium powder, for example, require more consideration to ensure that they do not settle in transfer lines, this is what can cause blocking and other issues on the way to the reactor tank. #Slurryhandling #processoptimisation #catalysts

A special deep hole drilling machine is used to drill holes, the heat exchange block is sealed by polytetrafluoroethylene, and the upper part of the equipment is equipped with a pressure spring as a stress compensation device for temperature difference. Compared with YKA, the seal is more reliable. Prior to the installation of the multiphase level measurement #EmulsionSENS on the #desalter, the customer had no idea what was really going on inside the vessel. After the measurement had successfully provided insights into the inside of the vessel for several weeks, it became apparent that the level should be lowered below the original operating range in order to improve the efficiency of the desalter. The reason for this was excessive iron carryover: the theory is that iron requires agitation to precipitate. However, some minerals float on the #emulsion layer causing less to precipitate. In this case, lowering the interface level in the vessel results in the turbulence of the mud washing system agitating the emulsion and thus supporting the precipitation of the iron. Thanks to Berthold's abilities and the design of #EmulsionSENS, it was possible to overcome the challenge and redesign the already installed system in a simple and uncomplicated way without having to replace everything.
