Tassie is known for quite a few things – including its wine, of course. Our hardworking wine producers only have one chance a year to harvest their precious grapes after tirelessly managing them across the year through whatever the season brings (sun, rain, hail, frost, drought, floods – sometimes all of the above). This year the wine grape harvest broke a few records (applauses at the end); • The 13th largest region by volume, yet the 5th most valuable (up from 10th most valuable last year) • A textbook-perfect season which will produce around 14 million bottles of delicious Tassie wine, up 36% in volume on the previous vintage. • Wine grape prices averaging $3,674 per tonne, up 9% on last year In summary – the best Tassie vintage this year! Keeping your collection properly stored Storing your #wine correctly can be the difference between a #collection worth something and one that isn’t. While a cellar or specialised wine fridge is usually ideal, ensuring it’s in a cool and dark place with good air circulation is crucial no matter where you store it. Other than temperature and humidity, cork failure or label damage can happen; these potential risks can all be assessed and covered with a #specialistinsurancepolicy Investing in a secure and monitored storage solution enhances the wines’ longevity and helps satisfy insurance requirements, making it easier to obtain comprehensive cover. https://lnkd.in/e6KMyJ9V #winecollections #insurancesolutions #wilmslow #alderleyedge #cheshire

This past weekend was National Rose Day, here are 5 tips for enjoying ours! 1. Rosé wine is best enjoyed at a temperature between 44 and 55°F (7 and 12°C), which is a bit warmer than the ideal temperature for white wine. 2. Placing Rosés in the fridge overnight can extend their freshness and keep them looking vibrant. 3. Once opened, a bottle of Rosé wine can stay fresh for two to five days in the fridge if it is resealed with the original cork or screw cap. 4. The ideal glasses for serving rosé are tulip-shaped or stemless. 5. Rosé is versatile and pairs nicely with a variety of foods, such as barbecue meats, grilled chicken or fish, roasts, and vegetables. https://lnkd.in/gdgYhsfU

Vineyard Update: Missed last week’s update due to vacation. It was only possible because my son took care of the hedging and spraying while we were gone. Thank you Josh Stinson . One thing I didn’t mention in the video about the impact of the drought earlier in the season is individual grape (or “berry”) size. Drought conditions cause the grapes to be smaller. This is desirable because it concentrates the flavor. It also helps prevent bunch rot as the grapes don’t close in tight, this allows air to circulate and dry out moisture that contributes to rot growth. I would guess the grapes are 10-15% smaller than last year. Also, notice the toughness and thickness of the grape skin when I crush the grape berry in my fingers. The skin is not like a table grape you buy at the grocery store. Vidal’s thick skin gives it rot and pest resistance. The skin (and seeds) also contribute tannins during the crushing process that greatly influence wine flavor and quality. This is especially so in wines that are not barrel aged, since those are the only tannins involved—unless the vintner adds them. Here is a link to an interesting article in Wine Enthusiast about tannins in wine if you’d like to know more. https://lnkd.in/eB9fpkqP #knowyourwine #virginiavineyards #virginiawine #vidalblanc

"No, if anyone orders Merlot, I’m leaving. I am NOT drinking any f***ing Merlot!" – Miles Raymond, Sideways This chart is a fascinating reminder of the difference between what gets talked about and what actually gets consumed. Remember the "infamous" Sideways? Turns out, Merlot not only survived—it thrived. Merlot that continues to resonate with people, even when the chatter suggests otherwise. And I have to admit, is one of my favorite varietals. Shared data on the top 15 wine grape varieties between 2000 and 2016 tells an interesting story: Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah have grown remarkably. The truth is, the big international varieties still hold power. But there’s another side to this story—one of potential for the underdogs. Think about Apple's rise under Steve Jobs—people didn’t know they needed an iPhone until it was in their hands. The same could be true for wine. Native varieties, less mainstream grapes, have the chance to shine. But it takes a clear product vision, strong differentiation, and a compelling story. Success doesn’t require massive volumes; it requires resonance. Should we stick with the crowd favorites, or is there room for something different? How do we take those niche varieties and create the next big thing? #wine #marketing #datadriven #market #nativegrape
World's Top 15 Wine Grape Varieties in 2000 and 2016. The deep fall of Airén (the former #1), Grenache, Bobal, and Monastrell / Mourvèdre. And the epic rise of Tempranillo (!), Cabernet Sauvignon , Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Merlot (in this order)

Hot Sacramento in the Central Valley California is of course a famous wine region. No less than 50% of the wine growing takes place here. The large Inland Valley, also called the Central Valley, is particularly productive. Everything grows and blooms here; two-thirds of all fruits and nuts in the United States come from here. This also includes grapes for both currants and wine. The warm Central Valley can be divided into the northern Sacramento Valley and the southern San Joaquin Valley. The largest agricultural activity takes place in the southern region. The Central Valley is approximately 650 km long and has a diverse soil structure. It is a former ocean floor that has created a marine deposit. Together with the erosion of the surrounding mountain ranges, an extremely fertile soil has been created. To the east lie the Sierra Nevadas while to the west the Coast Ranges with the Central Coast region. In short, Sacramento Valley Sacramento Valley is not particularly extensive when it comes to wine. And unfortunately, these wines are not easily available outside the region. These are mainly wines made from grape varieties that appreciate warmth, such as Syrah, Tempranillo, but also Malbec and Chenin Blanc.
