Today is International Cabernet Franc Day! Cabernet Franc Day is one of the major black grape varieties. It is principally grown for blending with Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot in the Bordeaux style. It tends to have a more pronounced perfume with notes of raspberries, blackcurrants, violets & graphite. Having slightly less tannins than Cabernet Sauvignon, it produces a wine with a smoother mouthfeel. Cabernet Franc is found predominantly in the Loire Valley and in the Libournais region of Bordeaux, France. A distinct herbal quality of this wine pairs well with dishes flavoured with herbs especially dill, fennel, rosemary. It is a perfect wine to pair with sweet-spicy smoked meats. Bâtard-Montrachet 2017 is a grand cru vineyard at the base of the Montrachet hill, across the communes of Chassagne and Puligny-Montrachet. Along with its grand cru neighbors Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet is considered to be one of the very best terroirs in the world for the Chardonnaygrape variety, making complex, structured wines with excellent aging abilities. Overt vanilla aromas tends to come with barrel fermentation more than via the more gentle processes involved in barrel maturation, and from new wood rather than used oak. Vanilla, butterscotch, cream, coconut, buttered toast Overt oakiness - woodspice Stewed fruit, peaches, apricot, tropical notes. classic match would be lobster or crayfish doused in butter. 🍇 What are the stories behind family-owned Canadian wineries❓ https://lnkd.in/gq8FxgFQ 🌱 There are four major regions in Canada that produce wines made from grapes: BC, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. 🍷 Ontario makes about 63% of the wine, BC 33% and 2% for each of Quebec and NS, with more than 700 wineries from coast to coast and 1,800 grape growers. 💰 Every bottle of 100% Canadian wine contributes $90 to the national economy versus just $16 for an imported bottle. 🏞️ Pride of place literally grounds them all. 2020, Maison Foucher, Le Mont, Sancerre, Loire Valley, France @maisonfoucher Maison Foucher was established in 1921 at the heart of the Centre Loire vineyard, between Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre; where they produce some beautiful wines. The wine has aged for 10 months on lees. Le Mont Sancerre is pretty much their flagship wine. Tasting Notes Appearance: Pale yellow Nose: Very clean flavors of lime, nectarine, orange zest, pear, bread and, mineral notes. Palate: The wine is dry, medium bodied wine with racy acidity. The fresh citrus and mineral notes show well on the palate. A long and crisp finish. Pairing: A match made in heaven with oysters, and goat cheese. Goes well with other shellfish, fresh and fatty white fish preparations

One of the most underrated wines in Italy today! 🍷🍇 Granted, we’re not speaking of the ocean of mass-produced Lambrusco that hails from the alluvial plains of the Po Valley and is made in large industrial wineries. Instead, the Emilia portion of the region has a lot to offer wine lovers. Emilia is experiencing a surge in high-quality Lambrusco produced in styles from Secco (dry) to Amabile (semisweet) and Dolce (sweet). These are artisanal products made in much smaller batches or created using Metodo Classico (Champenois Method). Today is International Viognier Day, celebrated on last Friday in April every year. Viognier is pronounced as Vee-own-yay. Viognier is a textural white wine that originated in the historic appellation of Condrieu in Southern France. Defined by its perfumed aromas, Viognier produces some of the greatest white wines in the world. On the nose, Viognier is very aromatic with rich aromas of tangerine, mango, honeysuckle, rose & peach. Oaked versions will also have subtle vanilla and smoked aromas. Even though Viognier is fruity, it isn't very sweet and considered dry white or semi-sweet wine. So if you like full-bodied Chardonnay, you’ll like Viognier. Serving Viognier with herbs and potatoes would be a lovely match with a vibrant neutral oaked Viognier. Trivia about Viognier: Ø Viognier is originally from the Northern Rhone. Ø France has the most amount of Viognier in the world. Ø Viognier is often blended with Syrah to add complexity and stabilize Syrah’s color. Ø It can be crafted into a wide range of styles from light to full-bodied. Ø Viognier has low yields so it becomes difficult to cultivate. In fact it was almost extinct in the 1980s.

Here are a few facts about Australia's most widely planted varietal that you may not know: 🍷 Outside Australia, shiraz is mostly known as syrah —they are the same grape, although some winemakers refer to stylistic differences. 🍷 Australia is home to some of the oldest pre-phylloxera shiraz plantings in the world 🍷 While Shiraz accounts for 7% of global red variety plantings, its share in Australia is significantly higher at 46% @wineaustralia 🍷 A diverse range of Shiraz styles – from the older family-owned wineries with established plantings, to newer wineries that continue to innovate and do outstanding work crafting their unique style.
