The construction of a four-lane expressway connecting New Town to Barasat through Madhyamgram has started in the North 24 PGS district. There is a possibility of adding service lanes on both sides later. Built by West Bengal PWD, the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. The expressway is being built as a shorter route for the rest of the city to visit places like Madhyamgram, Barasat, and subsequently the NH-12, earlier known as NH-34. Now motorists from the city headed towards NH-12 have to rely on VIP Road and Jessore Road to go to Barasat. This expressway will reduce travel time between Barasat and New Town by at least 25 minutes. source : the bengal index

Tiruchirappalli International airport new terminal to get Cauvery water by 2025. Airports Authority of India (AAI) has made a payment of Rs 6 crore to the TWAD board for installing new pipelines for a length of 24 km. The source of the Cauvery water allocated for the airport is located in Madhiyanipatti village. In order to supply Cauvery water to Trichy International Airport, the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) board has begun civil work on a drinking water network. Since the airport now depends on groundwater for its operations, 0.6 mld (million liters per day) of Cauvery water would be provided as a permanent water source for the new terminal. #trichy #trichyit

India's introduction of the Open Road Tolling (ORT) system on the Atal Setu bridge, part of the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL), signifies a remarkable leap in infrastructure advancement. Since its inauguration on January 12th, the 22-kilometer bridge has seamlessly accommodated around 30,000 vehicles daily, boasting an innovative tolling mechanism akin to systems in advanced nations like Singapore. Despite its success, toll evasion, albeit at a relatively low 3.5%, poses a concern. To address this, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to activate toll boom barriers on the MTHL, ensuring toll payments before exit. This hiccup notwithstanding, the implementation of ORT on the Atal Setu bridge is commendable. It exemplifies India's commitment to modernizing infrastructure and streamlining traffic management. As we envision a future where ORT systems blanket India's road network, let's celebrate the progress made and remain optimistic about the journey ahead. #atalsetu #tolling #futureoftransport #ORTIndia
