Last week the RePUP consortium (DTU Sustain, DTU Compute, CLIMIFY, Danfoss, VELUX, Høje-Taastrup Kommune, Panasonic, Center Denmark, ENFOR A/S) spent the day together to present and discuss progress on all the activities in the project. And there was a lot to talk about….. Monitoring and control are ongoing in a school and living labs at DTU, and five homes and a daycare centre will follow very soon with installation of heat pumps and innovative ventilation systems. Algorithms for fault detection and model predictive control have been selected, and a framework to include building users in the control of the indoor environment finalized. A dynamic comfort model that integrates information occupant perceptions with environmental data, energy use, electricity price, and weather forecast is in the pipeline. The coming year will be super exciting when results will continue to roll in. Stay tuned for updates on project findings. 🏠✨ Last week, we had the honor of welcoming Sibylle Braungardt, Head of the Heating & Efficiency subdivision and Senior Researcher at the Oeko-Institut e.V. Freiburg, and Andreas Wagner, Vice Dean Research at KIT’s Faculty of Architecture, to the Energy Smart Home Lab! Guided by Leandra Scharnhorst from IIP, the tour sparked engaging discussions around social aspects of energy use in smart homes. The insightful exchange highlighted the powerful role of political context in energy choices, an intriguing avenue for future research, to consider how global events shape household decisions on energy savings or energy carrier switches. At the Energy Smart Home Lab, we’ve tested how far tenants are willing to adjust their comfort levels, including lowering heating set points during the energy crisis in the winter months of 2022-2023 – revealing valuable findings on adaptive energy behaviors. 📊🔍 See our publication here: https://lnkd.in/edDpr2p6 A big thank you to Dr. Braungardt and Prof. Wagner for their visit, their insights, and an inspiring discussion on how smart homes and informed choices can drive sustainable change. 🌍✨ #EnergySmartHomeLab #SmartHomeResearch #SustainableLiving #KIT #EnergyCrisisResponse #SocioEmpiricalResearch #AdaptiveEnergy

We're gaining traction as a key player in the innovative shift away from traditional street lighting in Britain. As part of a national strategy potentially removing up to 1.5 million lampposts, our SolarLite road studs are being highlighted as a significant solution for maintaining road safety and improving sustainability. These solar-powered, sustainable studs will be installed in high-risk areas such as roundabouts and crossroads, providing dependable visibility without the need for traditional lighting infrastructure. The SolarLite studs, along with other intelligent road solutions, aim to ensure safety and visibility as Britain transitions to sustainable, cost-effective road lighting solutions. Inwido is prepared for the renovation wave. On September 2, Inwido's CFO Peter Welin participated in the panel discussion “Delivering on the renovation wave”, hosted by Nordea. In the discussion Peter concluded that windows and doors will play a significant role in achieving EU's goal of energy efficiency in buildings, and that our business units have the products and the ability to meet future needs. New, energy-efficient windows contribute significantly to reducing future emissions, including the footprint of new build. "I also wanted to emphasize that a change of windows is not only beneficial for energy efficiency, but it also improves the indoor climate, the design of the house as well as increases light, security and sound protection, all important for improved well-being for people", comments Peter. The other panelists were Robin Boheman, CEO of Instalco, and Anna Denell, CSO at Vasakronan. The conclusion of the discussion was that the majority of the renovation activity is ahead of us. #renovation #EPBD #windowsanddoors

HELP US WIN THE CHALLENGE I and my team are participating in the 2024 EFFICIENCY FOR ACCESS DESIGN CHALLENGE 2023-24. The Efficiency for Access Design Challenge is a global multi-disciplinary competition that empowers university students to help accelerate clean energy access. This year's challenge was to create an affordable and high-performing off-grid appliances and enabling technologies. Our project is titled "A Dual-Functional Farm Produce Preservation System". its simply a system that uses solar energy to preserve agro-produce by either drying or cooling them(between 2 - 10C) so that their shell life is extended and the farmer can obtain value from his efforts. It uses solar concentrators to generate heat for drying and adopts vapour compression refrigertion technology for cooling using a DC compressor for energy effificiency.
