May marks Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to shed light on the challenges faced by military families. Mental illness casts a long shadow, affecting not only veterans but also their loved ones. Untreated, it contributes to rising suicide rates, substance use disorders, and intimate partner violence. Mental illness at this level impacts not only the quality of life of each veteran but also the livelihood of their families. This month let's stand together to support those impacted by mental health issues within the military community. If you or someone you know is struggling, remember that help is available. Dial 988 and press 1 or text 838255 to connect with the Veterans Crisis Line. You don't have to be enrolled in VA benefits or health care to call. It serves veterans, their families, and friends. While The Operation Child Care Project is not primarily a mental health organization, not having access to affordable child care can have a profoundly negative impact on your mental health. We are here to help. Please visit www.occproject.org to learn more. Reach out, seek support, and together, let's break the stigma surrounding mental health. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MilitaryAppreciationMonth #milspouse #OCCPadvocacy #operationchildcareproject #militaryspouse #milspouselife #militarykid #militarychildcare #childcare #childcareaccess #militaryfamily #MilitaryChildren #MilitaryFamilies #militaryfamilystrong #childcare #mentalhealth #military #dualmilitary #nonprofit

"Sometimes the most valuable thing we can do for our kids is nothing at all. As parents, we often feel the need to shield our children from failure or step in when things get difficult. However, helping children learn to fail and get back up again—helping kids learn independence, accountability, and resiliency—can be one of the most critical life lessons they will ever experience." Attention transitioning service members! As you exit the military, it's crucial to take the time to prioritize your health and well-being. Regardless of the number of years you served, make sure to do your medical and get a disability rating. Remember, don't rush the process - slow down and go to your appointments. It's important to get everything documented in your records. If you're experiencing sleep issues, make sure to get a sleep study. If you have concerns about PTSD, speak to someone and get it documented while you are still on orders so it’s “service connected”. If your military branch isn't providing the help you need during your transition, don't worry. I'm here to help you. Drop me a message on here or email me at lucas.bistor@us.KBR.com. Remember, taking care of yourself is the first step in a successful transition. #skillbridge #transitioningservicemember #hiringourheroes

Military training is renowned for its physical demands, rigorous exercises, and intensive preparation for combat scenarios. But, amidst the focus on physical fitness and tactical skills, the importance of mental health often takes a backseat. Recognizing the critical role that mental resilience plays in military effectiveness and the well-being of service members, there has been a concerted effort to strengthen mental health protocols within military training programs. Here are 3 strategies for promoting mental health in military training: 🔷Resilience Training: Incorporate resilience-building exercises and workshops into military training programs such as practical coping skills, stress management techniques, and strategies for maintaining mental well-being in high-pressure situations. 🔷Mental Health Education: Provide comprehensive mental health education and awareness training to service members as part of their military training curriculum. This training should cover topics such as recognizing signs of mental health issues, reducing stigma surrounding mental illness, and accessing support services. 🔷Post-Deployment Support: Offer comprehensive post-deployment support programs to service members returning from deployments such as mental health screenings, access to counseling services, and peer support groups to help service members transition back to civilian life and cope with the challenges of reintegration.
