🎓🔧 Why are apprenticeships seen as a fallback rather than a first choice? 🔧🎓 Too often, society and academia send a message: if you excel in school, you pursue A-levels and a university degree. If you stumble, especially at GCSE level, you're nudged toward an apprenticeship. But why do we treat apprenticeships as the "second-best" option? The truth is, apprenticeships are a powerful and rewarding route to a fulfilling career. They offer hands-on experience, a chance to earn while you learn, and increasingly, pathways to higher qualifications—including degrees sponsored by employers. This approach blends practical skills with academic development, often leading to well-rounded professionals with less debt and stronger job prospects. The stigma surrounding apprenticeships needs to change. What if we started promoting them not as a backup plan but as an equally valuable first choice? What if we encouraged young people—regardless of their exam results—to explore this path as a legitimate, ambitious way to build their future? 💡 What would happen if we flipped the narrative? - Would we see more engaged learners who thrive in practical environments? - Could companies benefit from a broader talent pool with skills tailored to their industries? - And how might this reshape the way we define success in education and career paths? It’s time we start asking these questions—and rethink how we present opportunities to the next generation. 👉 What are your thoughts? Should apprenticeships be framed as a first choice for career progression rather than a fallback option? Let’s discuss in the comments! #Apprenticeships #CareerProgression #EducationReform #FutureOfWork

📣 Thoughts on the Proposed Level 7 Apprenticeship Changes The government’s decision to consider defunding Level 7 apprenticeships has sparked a lot of debate, and I can’t help but feel it’s a move in the wrong direction. While the intention might be to redirect resources, we risk compromising a vital pathway for individuals to achieve professional qualifications, diversify industries, and grow into high-skilled roles. In my view, the focus shouldn’t be on restricting access to advanced apprenticeships but instead on ensuring that teenagers are better prepared during their college or sixth form years. This critical stage in education should offer more opportunities for personal growth and exploration, allowing young people to build confidence and skills before entering full-time employment or committing to intensive learning programs. Why this matters: 💜Many teenagers may not yet be ready for the demands of a full-time job while also studying for qualifications. 💜Strong foundations at earlier stages of education could help young people thrive when they do step into apprenticeships or other career pathways. 💜Removing Level 7 funding could close off a crucial ladder of opportunity for those who rely on it to access and excel in professions traditionally dominated by university graduates. Apprenticeships are a powerful tool for social mobility and economic growth. Instead of cutting opportunities, let’s look at how we can better support young people before they take that leap into their careers. What are your thoughts? How can we strike the right balance between accessibility and readiness in education and apprenticeships? #Apprenticeships #EducationPolicy #Level7 #FutureSkills

❗️❗️ University Fees due to rise AGAIN!! ❗️❗️ With fee's on the rise yet again, 18-22 year-olds will be in an estimated £70,000 of debt before they’ve even started their career. The majority of which spend the next 20-30 years paying it off. As someone who has been to university, I find myself asking... 💡 What if there was a different path? A path that didn't get you in debt, but instead allowed you to save money... which allowed you to purchase your first house or travel the world? A path that meant you could learn on the job and apply those skills to help further your career all while gain real world experience? The answer is simple. ✨ APPRENTICESHIPS ✨ 👉 I am a massive advocate of everything apprenticeships. In fact if I knew then what I know now, I'd choose an apprenticeship a hundred times over. 👉 From April 2025, the national minimum wage for an apprentice is £15,750 - the highest jump in apprentice minimum wage yet! 👉 We're seeing a huge push on apprenticeships all over the UK meaning there is a variety of apprenticeships to choose from that offer a respected, debt-free alternative to traditional university... If you’re looking to LEVEL UP in your career—whether you’re just starting out or already in a senior role—drop me a message. We can support your apprenticeship journey from entry level all the way to a tech Masters. 📧 Email: acairns@qa.com 📞 Phone: 0121 616 7437 REMINDER ❗️❗️ University teaches theory, apprenticeships teach you HOW to do it. #CareerGoals #EarnWhileYouLearn #FutureReady #LevelUpYourCareer #ApprenticeshipsWork #DreamBigDoBigger #NextGenCareers #RealWorldSkills #DebtFreeFuture #ApprenticeshipLife #YourFutureStartsHere #SkillsForSuccess

Are Apprenticeships "second rate"? I was reading an article today where a survey was done on 5,000 young people. Results were as follows: - 12% of school and college students would like to do an apprenticeship - 60% are hoping to go to university to pursue an undergraduate degree. - Of those students opting to go to university, nearly half view apprenticeships as second-rate to university - 39% of those opting for university said that a degree has a better reputation than an apprenticeship - A tenth of that same group said their parents are against the apprentice route. As someone that did an apprenticeship back in 2020, it pains me to see that this mentality is still a thing years later. I to experienced being told that it was "second rate" , that it had a lesser reputation rather than university and my own parents didnt seem fully onboard with that decision. To this day I am still being asked if I would consider a degree 😅 . But if I was to now delve into the fact that LESS than half of uni graduates are working in a career that relates to their degrees the above stats become kind of funny (The SFE repayments aren't that funny though 👀 ). This debate could last forever but the short answer from my POV is that your journey and outcome mainly depends on yourself regardless of what path you choose. Both are great opportunities that can kickstart anyones career if they have the right mentality and put the work in. If you happen to be reading this as an employer and you don't have an apprenticeship program or the like running in your organisation, I would highly recommend it as the younger generation who want to choose that path have a lot to give and just need the opportunity. 🎓 Are Degrees Losing Their Value? Apprenticeships are the New Degree! 🔧 In today's rapidly evolving job market, the traditional university degree is increasingly being overshadowed by the rise of apprenticeships. 🎓❌ Here's why: 1. Hands-On Experience: Apprenticeships provide real-world, hands-on experience from day one. No more theoretical jargon, just practical skills that employers desperately need. 💼 2. Cost-Effective: University fees are skyrocketing, leaving graduates with enormous debt. In contrast, the apprenticeship levy covers the cost of training, meaning apprentices can earn while they learn without the financial burden. 💷 3. Employability: Employers are prioritising practical skills over academic knowledge. Apprentices come out of their programmes job-ready, while many degree holders still struggle to find relevant employment. 📈 4. Adaptability: The job market is changing fast. Apprenticeships can quickly adapt to industry needs, ensuring that apprentices are always learning relevant, up-to-date skills. 🔄 It's time to rethink our approach to education and career development. The prestige of a degree is fading, and the future belongs to those who can demonstrate skills and adaptability. It's time we recognised apprenticeships as the superior path to a successful career. 🚀 Let's start a conversation. What do you think? Are apprenticeships the new degree? Degree apprenticeships or traditional university that is the question A few years ago many people shut down the idea of degree Apprenticeships completely because it’s “too competitive “ or the balance of learning and working is too difficult but now it seems like degree apprenticeships are the way to go as you get a paid degree and a salary as well as endless amount of experience. With the increased cost of living meaning people are thinking about the debt that university leaves you in as well the struggling job market meaning people with bachelor and masters degrees are left unemployed due to a lack of opportunities and work experience . However on the other end it’s the university experience and the freedom you get of not having to balance a full time job aswell as learning . However this also comes with a debt of thousands which you are left paying off for the rest of your life with interest piling up also with a possibility of the degree being useless because you don’t have enough experience. Share your thoughts on which is the better option . #degreeapprenticeship #university #debate #apprenticeshipvsuniversity #aspiringapprentice
