The truth is, a lot of the old stuff we've been hanging onto is pretty lame and isn't doing our planet or our lifestyle any favors. It's time to acknowledge that the old way of doing things just isn't cutting it anymore. But fear not, because with change comes progress, and that's where the new stuff comes in. We’re talking about innovative solutions, sustainable technologies, and eco-friendly products that are not only better for the environment but also pretty darn cool. It's time to say goodbye to the boring old stuff, toss it in the trash (or recycle it to the poor!), and say hello to the exciting new stuff that's making a positive impact on our world. As a parent, I want nothing but the best for my children. They deserve to have access to the coolest, most cutting-edge things out there—things that not only bring them joy but ensure they get invited to the cool parties while contributing to a brighter, greener future for all. Let's face it: our parents were wrong about a lot of things. But that's okay because it's up to us to pave a new path forward. What if we assumed that a dinner lasted 365 days by a pantry supplied only once a year and with particularly fond of guests? With these assumptions, it would be likely to think that on day "X" the diners would run out of stocks going to draw on emergency stocks, ending then the extra reserves on day "X + 1", compromising the same and future celebrations. We used a bold metaphor to simply address the #OvershootDay, the event representing the time of year when ℎ𝑢𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑦 ℎ𝑎𝑠 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑢𝑚𝑒𝑑 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑐𝑒𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑒𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑟𝑒𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑎𝑚𝑒 365 𝑑𝑎𝑦𝑠.  The cadence (or deadline) is calculated by 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸  (non-profit association that develops tools to promote sustainability) and in 2024 it is celebrated today, namely 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭ˢᵗ. An unoptimistic date: the Earth has lost 1 day compared to 2023 (2 August) and almost 1 month compared to just 10 years ago (2 September). What are the possible actions for #Movethedate? Global Footprint Network identifies 5 macro areas of intervention, namely 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑒𝑡, 𝑐𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑒𝑠, 𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑦 𝑠𝑢𝑝𝑝𝑙𝑦, 𝑓𝑜𝑜𝑑 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑝𝑜𝑝𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛, each characterized by specific actions which, If implemented, can significantly delay the next Overshoot Day. Safeguarding the resources of the ecosystem with more conscious and careful actions must become increasingly a part of the daily lives of consumers and businesses. #Earthday is a tricky one for me. I want a healthier planet and a better future for my kids.
