🌍 Just wrapped up an incredible session of Climate Ninja, thanks to The Sustainability Mafia and a special shoutout to Anish Madeti for making it happen! 🎉 We were privileged to learn from the esteemed Amit Pandey Sir and Pooja Chopra Ma’am from Do It Zero (DIZ) . The session provided us with a deep understanding of climate change—why it’s happening, its impact, and how we can alter our habits to make a difference. One of the highlights was getting hands-on with En-ROADS, a powerful global climate simulator developed by Climate Interactive Interactive, the MIT Sloan Sustainability Initiative, and Ventana Systems. This tool allows users to explore the impact of various policies on factors like energy prices, temperature, air quality, and sea level rise. It's amazing to see how interconnected our actions are and the potential we have to create a resilient future. This session truly helped us understand what solutions are effective and which might not be as impactful. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I'm excited to apply these insights to contribute towards a sustainable future. 💪🌍 #ClimateAction #Sustainability #ClimateChange #EnROADS #DoItZero #SustainabilityMafia #ClimateNinja

🌎 Do you know that Climate Change is a Wicked Challenge? 🌎 "𝘞𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘰 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘱𝘵, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘢 𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦-𝘢𝘯𝘥-𝘧𝘰𝘳-𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳." - 𝘏𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘙𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘭 Climate change is a place to start telling the story about #systemsinnovation. These very complex systemic issues are called “wicked problems.” → Unlike typical problems with definitive solutions, wicked problems are intricate, multifaceted, and resistant to resolution. → Their solutions often lead to further challenges due to their interconnected nature, as do many problems today. #Climatechange is an example of a wicked problem demanding systemic actions that address its deeply interconnected challenges. 1️⃣ 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: a multitude of perspectives exists, each influenced by varying experiences, cultural backgrounds, and knowledge bases. This complicates consensus and unified action. 2️⃣ 𝐋𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬: Climate change deeply influences societal structures, economic stability, technological advancements, and cultural norms. 3️⃣ 𝐖𝐞𝐛 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬: It’s not a standalone issue; it intertwines with other critical global concerns: food availability, population movements, resource distribution, and more. 4️⃣ 𝐄𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐬: the landscape of climate change is not static. New challenges and nuances emerge as time progresses. 5️⃣ 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬-𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡:it requires insights and expertise from a myriad of fields. It transcends traditional categories, urging collaboration between sectors that might not usually intersect. 6️⃣ 𝐕𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: climate change doesn't offer a singular solution. Instead, we're tasked with exploring a spectrum of approaches, each with its unique strengths and challenges. Confronting the challenges of climate change requires more than isolated efforts; it demands collective, systemic action. 🔗 Source: Systems Innovation Climate Toolkit #climatechange #sustainability #environment #ecosystems #climateaction #impact Join us - Impact by LEAD 🌍💪🌱 Sachio Nishioka Gricha Safarian Jean Bozman

💡 Climate Science Q&A with Al Gore Carlo Buontempo and Dr. Filippo Giorgi The Climate Reality Project in Rome Take-aways: ✅ Have we surpassed tipping points? —> Amazon (not yet) —> Key ocean streams (not yet, estimates tens to a hundred years from now) —> The cryosphere is melting much faster than expected says Filippo —> Effect of methane released into the atmosphere—not enough data on this —> Unfortunately ignorance is what often drives change, let’s not relent ✅ How do we create change? —> We’re probably going to overshoot all limits in terms of temperature —> We have all the technologies we need to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030 —> We need political will, and grassroots —> CO2 emissions in the atmosphere are cumulative—we need to act now —> We live in the warmest time in the past 100,000 years —> Potential of nature based solutions: afforestation (1 trillion trees needed, size of US)—no magic bullet —> In current climate plants are suffering, this needs to be taken into consideration —> We need a mosaic of means (soil sequestration mentioned as a promising option) ✅ Gen AI effect on climate —> we are going through a machine learning revolution in climate science—but this takes a huge amount of energy and water ✅ Development does not automatically mean use of fossil fuels or being detrimental to the planet. Development is happening in the opposite direction as we speak—it can happen sustainably. ✅ How to get finance, banks, and business on board? It is happening and crucial for change, but many questions remain, such as: which is better, taxing or incentives? ✅ What is the most important policy for effective climate action? —> Al says best policy is the latest in US: Inflation Reduction Act —> Carlo is interested in COP29 and the opportunity for change in fossil fuel use —> Dr. Filippo asks us to vote and start from ourselves, we make decisions every day! #sustainability #theclimaterealityproject #climateaction

Hi Everyone! Here’s how the first The Sustainability Mafia , Climate Ninja master class went: The first session dove deep into the science of climate change with Amit Pandey, the mastermind behind Do It Zero (DIZ). I had the privilege to listen to him for the second time after his session at TERI SAS through the TERI Susmafia student chapter. His session provided a clear breakdown of the causes and consequences of climate change, leaving no room for confusion. We even got to explore some interactive tools from Climate Interactive that helped us visualize the impact of different climate scenarios. But understanding the problem is just half the battle. We also discussed about possible solutions and unpacked various strategies and initiatives that are paving the way for a more sustainable future. #climatechange #sustainability #climateaction #masterclass #TheSusMafia #DoItZero #ClimateInteractive #ClimateNinja #learning #knowledge #gogreen #savetheplanet #sustainablefuture
