💚 Berlin-based Vyld has secured a seven-figure seed round to launch Kelpon, the world’s first tampon made from seaweed, this year. The startup, founded by Ines Schiller and Melanie Schichan, focuses on sustainable, biodegradable period products and circular seaweed-based innovations. Vyld operates with a unique financing model, the Future Profit Partnership Agreement (FPPA), prioritizing long-term ecological and economic sustainability over typical VC-backed growth. With its model, they are particularly appealing to investors who want to invest their money in a regenerative way and critically question the maximum principle. 🌍 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/drzydJ_z #SustainableInnovation #EcoFriendly #SeaweedTechnology #CircularEconomy #GreenBusiness

French clean tech startup Calyxia nets $35M to tackle microplastics pollution. French clean tech startup Calyxia has profitability within sight. The company just raised a $35 million Series B round that will help it further ramp up industrial production of its sustainable alternatives to microparticles and microcapsules, setting it on the path to net profitability by 2026. But co-founder and CEO Jamie Walters says the B Corp is just getting started. The “starter” problem Calyxia is tackling is staggering at global scale: Microplastics are polluting everything around the world, from soils, rivers and beaches to the icy waters of the Arctic — they’re even getting inside our own bodies and brains. Beyond that, the traditional production methods employed by the materials and chemical industries can cause a range of environmental issues. It’s imperative to green up industrial manufacturing processes if we’re to safeguard the environment for future generations and reduce the energy used to make stuff. Walters said Calyxia’s mission for the next five to 10 years is to become the global leader in the microparticles and microcapsules categories. After that, he wants the company’s technologies to be transforming the industrial chemical industry more broadly. https://lnkd.in/gD8p6mfF #Calyxia #microplastics #environment

Just recently, Positive News published an article about the 10th anniversary of the Green Alley Award: https://lnkd.in/eKk9kMPc They had these (positive!) words to say about the list of soon-to-be 60 finalists who will have competed for our award: “It is a bulging-with-hope list of solutions that disrupt the accepted system of making products to be consumed and dumped at considerable cost to the planet.” The article sets the context that drove us to launch the award: the depletion of natural resources and our determination to support circular economy policies that will decouple economic growth from their use. I hope to see you at the final in Berlin, where Positive New’s Martin Wright will join me on the jury. You can register your place in the comment below. This week, after intense discussion, we chose the five remaining startups who will join Novapedra in the final. Let’s take a closer look at them in the coming weeks… #circulareconomy #startups #recycling #wasteprevention

🌱A huge proportion of our fruits and vegetables are grown in plastic greenhouses. Globally, they occupy an area of over 1 million hectares. These greenhouses are cheap, easy to install, and enable farmers to grow crops in dry, hot environments. Yet, farmers are facing rising energy costs when it comes to maintaining the cooler climate inside their plastic greenhouses. ☀️ So, wouldn’t it be great to use the roof space of the greenhouse for solar energy? This is the exact solution Hoop Solar is working on – to enable growers to produce their own clean energy. Their system is composed of lightweight solar modules that are installed inside the greenhouse. Founded by Ross and Kevin, Hoop Solar is one of the 8 startups in batch 3 of our Hardtech Innovation accelerator program. “MotionLab.Berlin and the program are amazing! Where else would you have an awesome makerspace, a bus to take meetings in, and late-night rave parties? The people here are so talented, humble, and supportive. We’ve received such generous support from people who have helped us on our mission that we will forever be grateful for it. It’s a community that embraces what makes Berlin special and makes it its own.” Ross and Kevin not only reached all their goals within the program, but they are also ready for the next milestone: A first in-field pilot project in Almería, Spain, and pre-seed fundraising. Their motto: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” - Wayne Gretzky Read more about Hoop Solar, their approach to greener energy, and their journey in our program here ➡️ link in the comments below 🥂The countdown has started! The grand finale of our accelerator program is taking place next Friday. Be sure to get your tickets for the Demo Day ➡️ link in the comments below. The Hardtech Innovation program is supported by funds from the European Union (European Social Fund) and the State of Berlin. #hardtech #solarpower #Berlin #MotionLabBerlin #startup #HoopSolar
