Tank vessels bound for Russia transmit false position data in the Gulf of Finland. The Finnish Border Guard warns that vessels sailing in the Gulf of Finland are increasingly transmitting deviating or outright false information about their position. According to the Deputy Commander of the Gulf of Finland Maritime Patrol Section, Mikko Hirvi, the number of vessels that transmit AIS signals which deviate from the ships actual positions in the Gulf of Finland are increasing. Such practices pose a threat to navigational safety. For those who are not familiar with the Automatic Identification System (AIS), it transmits a ship's exact position at short intervals. Onboard AIS transmitters can be switched off or manipulated to report false positions. According to Mikko Hirvi, it is primarily tankers bound for key Russian ports - such as Ust-Luga and Primorsk - that are manipulating their AIS data in order to blur out their port calls to Russia.

A great primer by Helen Davidson on China's Maritime Militia, the PRC's primary means of grey zone warfare across the IndoPacific. Quotes from Gregory Poling leader of the amazing team at Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)'s Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative. "The maritime militia has existed for decades but has become more professional, better equipped, and more militarised under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, who has overhauled China’s armed forces since taking power in 2012. It is made up of two main forces. One is the professional fleet of at least 100 purpose-built boats which have the appearance of fishing vessels. The other fleet, known as the Spratly Backbone Fishing Vessels (SBFV), is a larger group of actual fishing boats that operate out of ports across Hainan and Guangdong, and have been drafted into China’s missions. The professional fleet consists of stronger boats with better, often military-grade equipment. They’re usually visible on satellite tracking platforms swarming around disputed locations. The SBFV is harder to spot, and usually have lower grade satellite transmitters or none at all. Some have had structural and technological upgrades."

𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧: guided aerial bombs are why Ukraine asks for Patriots/SAMP-Ts daily. They are one of the biggest threats on the front line and in the regions close to the russian border. These bombs are almost impossible to shoot down. The only way is to destroy the carriers.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 #𝗨𝗸𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀 A little over two years after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the #war continues to torment the country, perpetuating the interruption of maritime transport to the Ukrainian ports of the Black Sea. However, slowly, the #ships are returning. Initially, the ships have been #bulkcarrier to transport #grain and #iron, followed by small portacontainer. On 21 April, Pros Hope, a 1,118 TEU ship chartered by a Ukrainian freight forwarder, carried out a small cabotage transport between the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk and the Romanian port of Constance, in collaboration with the Ukrainian subsidiary of a well-known shipper who suspended river transport on the Danube from Constance to Reni probably to return to the sea. Also other European shipowners would be interested to use the port of Constance as I throw again point of the container that they travel on its total net and are directed in Ukraine. If container traffic were to increase, the port of Chornomorsk, located about twenty kilometers south of #Odessa, could prove inadequate, being small and not adequately equipped for containers. Currently, it is used as infrastructure for the so-called "grain corridor". The ideal landing place would be the port of Odessa, which however remains under the threat of Russian missiles and drones. The other terminus would remain Constance, which, according to analysts has increased container traffic by 32% - from 610,000 to 810,000 TEUs - from 2022 to 2024, precisely because of the diversion of Ukrainian traffic. Despite these signs of improvement, the situation remains precarious Setoa will listen to the evolution of the issue to give sudden information to its customers. #navalroutes #maritimetransport #blacksea #freightforwarder
