He responded that he recently lost his job due to AI 😬 - however, he was optimistic about it, noting that we need to be able to adjust to technology (but still feeling like GenAI is pretty scary). In fact he's already going back to school and preparing to make a career pivot toward healthcare. Yesterday, I had the privilege of representing Bitsphi Diagnosis in the i4KIDS I i4KIDS-EUROPE #InnovationsDay, and I’m excited to share some key #takeaways: 🔹 #Pediatrics are the future: Children may represent 20% of today’s population, but they are 100% of tomorrow’s. Yet, only 1.6% of healthtech investments are dedicated to pediatrics. The mission of "improving and changing a lifetime" truly inspired me. 🔹 The #impact of #early #investment: Investing in #pediatrics helps prevent diseases that emerge in adulthood. For example, 5.29% of children globally have #ADHD, with underdiagnosis being especially common in girls with inattentive symptoms. This often leads to challenges in adulthood, such as work difficulties, social struggles, and addiction. Early intervention can create profound, long-lasting benefits. 🔹 Healthtech approvals lag for children: The FDA approves far fewer health technologies for children than for adults. Since a peak in 2020, these numbers have declined. Innovations for younger children (under 12 years) need to be a greater priority. 🔹 Opportunities in pediatrics: The pediatrics market offers unique advantages like less competition, smaller clinical trials and regulatory incentives, like reduced or waived #FDA fees and benefits for orphan drugs and devices. 🔹 Child-friendly usability matters: In #pediatrics, usability means more than functionality—it must be accessible and child-friendly to meet the unique needs of kids while achieving #FDA and #CE compliance. 🔹 Global collaboration for startups: The event announced a 6-month program by i4KIDS I i4KIDS-EUROPE & Impact1 at Stanford Biodesign to support startups through advisory and collaboration, bridging the gap between the USA and Europe. 👶🏻 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐏𝐆𝐀𝐑 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐬? 👶🏻 The 𝐀𝐏𝐆𝐀𝐑 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐞 is a quick, simple test done on a newborn baby right after birth to check how well they’re adjusting to life outside the womb. It helps healthcare providers assess if the baby needs any immediate medical attention. The test is performed at 1 minute and 5 minutes after birth. The word 𝐀𝐏𝐆𝐀𝐑 stands for: • Appearance (skin color) • Pulse (heart rate) • Grimace (reflexes and response to stimulation) • Activity (muscle tone) • Respiration (breathing effort) Each of these 5 areas is scored from 0 to 2, with: • 0 indicating a concern (like no pulse or breathing), • 1 meaning the baby’s condition is okay but could be better, and • 2 showing a healthy response (like a strong cry or normal skin color). The total score ranges from 0 to 10, where a score of 7 to 10 usually means the baby is doing well, while a lower score might indicate that the baby needs some extra care or monitoring.
