This article title is utter trash! "Difficult candidate" is a term I HATE - It's used by lazy recruiters as an excuse for not taking the time to properly understand a candidate. Labelling someone as "difficult" is a convenient excuse rather than taking accountability that the candidate's motivations/preferences haven't been properly understood. Easier just to call them difficult. I think the title of the article would be better if it was "What can recruiters do better, to understand a candidate with complex requirements and motivations?" I hope the next LinkedIn article I am invited to contribute to has more emphasis on how to improve recruitment best practices, rather than blaming candidates for not complying with the needs of the recruiter. #recruiting #hiring #architecturejobs #interiordesignjobs #architecture

Why you might not want to apply to job postings on LinkedIn before finding out more information. A pet peeve or mine for years has been the ghost posting of jobs by recruiters. The posting of the same job in every major market when the company is actually located somewhere else. This is usually just a grab for resumes and it leads to people complaining the recruiters don't call them back. It's pretty common for people I know to send me a posting of someone else and say that they would be interested, but want to know who the company is. This is often difficult to know. For instance, there is currently a posting that says they are hiring in Downers Grove Il for a PM. The recruiter then goes on to say that it's all local work in central Illinois. Later in the same posting, it says, and I quote: "If you are an Estimator with Integrity, a strong Work Ethic and open to working in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, then please read on" This could be a 100% legitimate post, but I don't have a clue where I would work or what I would do. So if you are applying to this job, where would you work? Would it be an estimator or PM? If this is wrong, is any of the other information correct? Will you hear back? Before sharing a resume, I recommend reaching out to the person who posted it, or someone you trust, to find out more. #chicagohiring #recruiters #construction

Managing the candidate experience should be a top priority for you when trying to hire someone. One area that a lot of construction companies can improve on is timing. Hiring is an investment - not just financially, but time-wise too. If you’re trying to hire someone, make sure you have the time to commit before jumping into it. I get it, we’re all busy and have a million things to do. But candidates don’t like to wait around for days or even weeks sometimes after they’ve submitted their resume. Chances are, they’re applying to multiple companies and they’re going to forget about you if you take too long to get back to them. This is one of the biggest reasons companies lose out on great talent. The more seamless you can make the hiring process, the better chance you’ll have at landing high performers. These initial steps are to be noted before publishing any job criteria.
