During my 2 weeks Induction and pre-foundation program, I've realized what I used to hear that MBA is not only about making right selections but also about right rejections. If there is a useless event, don't attend it always. As these events are mostly in the later part of the days, so prioritize resting yourselves instead and then have dinner which helps you to wake up till late and it ultimately helps you in learning more. In short, thoughtful choice and balance is very important in managing your time as the only time for skill enhancement is first year when we are a bit far from rat race of placements. After all, our primary goal is to be industry-ready, and that requires a focused approach that aligns with our long-term goals while still enjoying the vibrant cultural and social aspects of our MBA journey. #opinion #mba #selfimprovement #content

Friends that you make in MBA life are fake!! Hey, LinkedIn fam!! I am not saying that all the friends you will make in your MBA journey would be fake, but only a few would be real. MBA degrees in most colleges are residential ones. You stay at the campus like it is your home. You will need friends to hang out with, to have your meals, to go out and have fun, to help you in classes and whatnot. But, there is a possibility that the people with whom you do these things do not make you feel as friends. They can be someone you love to pass your time with or have fun for that matter but they might not be someone you would want to talk heart to heart. Make sure you choose your circle wisely. Make friends with whom you can do both fun and stress talks. Pursuing an MBA is a significant decision that requires not just academic preparation but also emotional and mental readiness. Here’s a guide to help you navigate the journey from deciding to pursue an MBA, tackling entrance exams, managing stress, and choosing your specialization. Choosing the right MBA specialization is crucial—options like Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations, IT, or General Management should align with your skills and career goals. After graduation, focus on networking, staying industry-relevant, and honing soft skills like leadership and communication to transition successfully into the professional world. Clearing MBA entrance exams like CAT, XAT, SNAP, GMAT are the first step, each with unique formats and competition levels. MBA entrance test preparation needs a strategic planning. The fraction with which to start is with syllabi, questions, and marking features. In other words, people should start with properly defined objectives based on existing strengths and the gradual enhancement of the weaknesses. Develop a study schedule where there is a segment for the formation of concepts, segment for practice and test, segment for revision. Mock tests should be conducted frequently because speed is very important—understand your mistakes and the best possible ways of getting through them. Join the coaching classes or group discussions or online forums when require more clarities or new thought process. MBA preparation is for persistence—daily practice beats the cramming at the last moments most of the time. While working, find ways to combine study with breaks using methods such as Pomodoro and focus on health by eating right, getting lots of sleep, and exercising. The second tip is to learn how to reduce stress by meditation or other techniques and loosen up about one’s concerns with friends or seniors. After the end of the exam, one should engage in preparation for GD/PI and also updating the current events and building profile with certifications or internships. The MBA journey is demanding but immensely rewarding if approached with the right mindset. Remember, the destination matters, but so does the journey. Celebrate small wins, stay resilient during setbacks, and believe in your ability to succeed. With determination and preparation, you’ll not only crack the entrance exams but also thrive in your MBA program and beyond. The CAT exams may be over, but there are still many other exams ahead this year. The real reason why I wanted to do an MBA was very silly. Placement was last on my list when I chose to do an MBA. I lost 1.5 years of my college life when I was doing my BBA, thanks to COVID. I didn't get a hearty farewell or proper goodbyes. I missed the opportunity to receive my degree offline. One last visit to my favorite cafeteria, One last chai at my favorite spot, One last walk around the campus, One last fun banter in the hostel room, I missed out on all of these. I wanted to do an MBA to relive my college life :) But my first year of my MBA was full of surprises. I learned that: - Doesn't matter if everyone knows you, only some actually do - You'll not end the year with the group you start MBA with - You will learn more outside the classroom than inside it - Managing your time and energy well are your only assets - To rule the curriculum is more of a strategy than hard work - If you want credit, you have to fight for it tooth and nail - Your mental strength and emotional stability will be tested - Grades is the last thing that matters in your MBA journey For most people, it's the final two years of being a student. I don't know if I could recreate all the missed college experiences, but I'd kill to relive the first year of my MBA all over. Post-MBA guidance: Congratulations to all MBA aspirants who made it into their dream b-schools this summer! I was also in your shoes two years ago. The past two years had its highs and lows, and I learnt so much along the way. This is my honest advice before your MBA journey begins. 1. Do a full review of course structure and requirements, this means knowing how much each exam and component can add up to your final grade and more importantly how much grade you wish to aim for. In most colleges, your grade or rank can define if you get your preferred Exchange University and if you get scholarships. 2. Keep good contact with your seniors! This means searching out for those with similar profiles to figure out if they faced any difficulties and if so how they got past it. As a non-engineer and non-commerce graduate, a lot of first and second term core courses were completely new to me and hence put me at slight disadvantage. 3. Making time for academics in the first few terms can be hard, especially when you are involved in multiple activities. Based on your ease of understanding new concepts, you should ensure that you're able to strike the right balance. 4. Learning some basic accounting and finance and business statistics can help you a lot in ensuring that you do not fall behind in classes. Don't refrain from asking for help and even more in providing help to others. 5. Be selfish with your time. I learned this quite late into the MBA, but if you need time to get things done yourself, then ensure that you have that personal time. With hostel culture and easy availability posed by instant messaging, you may be expected to be available for a lot of things at the same time. 6. Don't compare yourself right in the first few terms. This can create a negative impact on your performance. Trust that you're enough and that you have been selected for your talents too. This will be more evident when you take on subjects more suited to your interest or skills, where you seem to be able to ace concepts. 7. Explore all possibilities in these two years and network to build good connections with people. Even if you've been an introvert your whole life, find communities and people that you connect with and can learn from.
