This article was shared in a discussion on the question of food wastage. While no surprise that plant-based diets are eco-friendlier, but it highlights an area of concern - if we continue eating the way we do now, and the human population continues growing by a billion every 11-12 years, we will have a James Bond moment by 2050. One day, we will wake up to find “the world is not enough”. * This is more concerning that one in every ten people (735 million) sleeps hungry every day and almost a third of the population is malnourished even after 40% of all habitable land has been devoted to agriculture. * 71% of all agricultural land is used for grazing livestock. That leaves just about three parts out of ten for growing crops for human consumption. * Agriculture also sucks up 70% of all usable water while there is a crisis brewing for drinkable water. PROCESSING OF CASSAVA TO GARRI. Food processing is the transformation of agricultural products into food or of one form of food into other forms. Processing extends the shelf life of food, making it available throughout the year and reducing food waste. #agriculture #foodprocessing #cassavaprocessing

Up to 60% of fresh produce is wasted before it even reaches your plate. (A fact that not many of us realize when buying food.) But, the reality is…the second that our food is harvested. ↳ The harder it is to keep it ‘fresh’ 🤷 (And that’s without looking into the other negative aspects of our agriculture process) But, by utilizing Micro-Farms you are able to minimize these impacts by almost 90%. Because it eliminates the supply chain instantly, meaning: ✅ Reduced food waste ✅ Increased food security ✅ Consistently fresh produce ✅ Reduced water usage by 90% ✅ The risk of pests & disease minimized ✅ Year-round productivity & resource efficiency ✅ Consistent monitoring & control over farm conditions ✅ The use of chemicals, pesticides & herbicides is eliminated Although there is no one-size-fits-all solution, it’s becoming more and more clear that we need new tools to feed ourselves and reduce food wastage. Whether that is through indoor farming solutions or other ways that focus on handling & shipping fresh food. Whatever the solution, the amount of food being wasted on a daily basis needs to be reduced. And this is a big part of our mission over at Babylon Micro-Farms.

The Annual Farmer Voice Survey supported by #Bayer highlights the shared values that connect farmers worldwide. They recognize their vital role in food security, and their contributions to society in this regard are unparalleled. In a world that increasingly demands improvements in sustainability and nutrition, it's encouraging to see farmers adopting technology for informed decision-making, practicing regenerative methods, and taking a proactive, solution-focused approach to tackle challenges. One key finding from the survey that stood out to me is that, on average, farmers are implementing 7 out of 17 regenerative agriculture practices. Given the diverse regions covered in the survey, this is certainly something to celebrate while also continuing to support efforts for improvement. I'm confident that there's much more to come. #Farmers #TeamBayer #FarmerVoice #Regenerative #Agriculture #RegenAg #Technology #foodsecurity #nutrition

The UN’s Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has been leading global efforts to end world hunger, improve global nutrition, and enhance food security since 1945. To this end, #WorldFoodDay aims to promote a more sustainable future of food. How are we contributing to this goal? Adopting sustainable, effective farming practices helps us optimise food production, protect the environment, and leave fertile, healthy soils for the future. We help farmers do this with our wide range of agricultural analysis. By investing in laboratory analysis, growers can monitor progress and adjust management plans to maintain and improve crop yield. This helps farmers be more productive, which is incredibly important given how much food is required by our growing population.
