🌎The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requires organisations to publicly disclose their climate and biodiversity impact from 2025, with standards fit for independent assurance. Many are finding it challenging to align non-financial disclosures with the strictness of financial reporting. Finance and sustainability teams should collaborate to establish robust, well-documented processes that meet these new requirements effectively. https://lnkd.in/eyGBnhnZ #CSRD #Sustainability #ClimateDisclosure #ESG

The news may not tell you... But good things are happening within sustainability. Here is some good news to enlighten your day: 1️⃣ The European Union has a strategy to make Europe climate-neutral by 2050 and reduce emissions by 55% by 2030. This strategy is called the EU Green Deal. 🫱🏼🫲🏼 2️⃣ The deal contains multiple initiatives and directives to promote sustainable growth, circular economy, and environmental protection across countries, sectors, and even global value chains. 🌍 3️⃣ One prominent initiative is the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), a mandated reporting guideline for companies on how to measure and report on sustainability. This will improve the consistency and comparability of information across companies in the EU and provide an actual language for what can tend to be… well… fluffy! 📄 4️⃣ While nice sustainability reports won’t change much, the process of conducting them will. Not only will companies have a baseline to work with and set targets against, they will also have to address impacts, risks, and opportunities across their value chain and engage with stakeholders negatively affected by their operations. Hence, we are moving from a shareholder to a stakeholder perspective (and, btw, nature is a stakeholder in terms of ESG!). 🫂 5️⃣ Climate change has been discussed for a long time, but did you know biodiversity is a huge part of it? This year, the Nature Restoration Law was adopted, a continent-wide law to improve biodiversity with a commitment to restore all ecosystems in need by 2050 and restore at least 20% of the EU’s land and sea areas by 2030. That is a big hurray for food security and environmental stability. 🐝 The news may not tell you... But good things are happening within sustainability - and it is so important to share them so we do not feel numb before we have even begun. #sustainability #greendeal #eu #csrd #esg #goodnews

The gap between financial and non-financial reporting is getting narrower than it was. In particular for organisations caught by CSRD. This means bolstering (quite substantially) the levels of testing and assurance in place to protect against the risks of misstatement. This piece by Alex Hindson and Lloyd Richards, FIA CERA CStat is a brief, but really useful summary of the some of the challenges and actions firms can take.
